Re: Caramel Apples

Kas,

I made some caramels tonight and had thought they would be done in time

to give them to my daughter.

However I found out that they take a very long time to cool down! But I did dip some out for her to use

as a “dip” for apples and it is too firm for that. I am thinking of trying to cook them for a shorter amount of

time and see if it might not set up so she can dip apples cut up in them.

The other thing is my recipe says if I use a corn margarine it will

cause them not to set up and I wondered if that would cause them to be more

like a dip then? Guess I will have

to experiment on them.

When I get a chance to experiment and come out with a dip I will let you

know.

I believe T. Marzetti carmel dip is Gluten free. You will need to

check for any other alergens, but it was served at Diabetes camp to

both celiac and nonceliac diabetics.

Wild,

Thank you

so much for the input on the caramel dip.

Since you said it was served to diabetics does that mean it has

artificial sweeteners in it as well?

I am trying to avoid the artificial sweeteners as well as gluten for my

daughter.

The

caramels I made from scratch turned out well and she really ate them up. I think the next time I will try to

make the caramel up with out cooking it for so long and see if I can get it to

make more of a dip. She also loves

caramel dip like Mcs has with apples.

I will

check on the apple dip and see what I find if I can find it here.

No we use as little artifial sugars as we can. We count carbs. And

measured the carmel out. They have 2 kinds of carmel dip that

particular brand and one is fat free has more sugar then the regular.

Hersheys also has some sort of carmel dip, but it was like a dollar

more so I didnt even read the lable.

Hope this helps.
