Guest guest
When we ride our tandem, we ride about 11-12 miles per hour, rarely coasting, and we rarely ride less than 20 miles at a time and are working up to 30-40 miles. Most of our routes are fairly flat, or small rolling hills. We are both sweating and red faced for most of the ride. We have a computer that tells us exactly how long, how fast, average and peak speeds and so on, so I think we are at moderate for the most part, certainly not strenuous. I usually count it at about a point for 10 minutes of actual riding, not counting any breaks, then I'll round the time down. Then I sort of imagine the route as a whole picture and check it with how I feel to see if I really feel like I worked that much, if I feel like it was an easy ride, I drop a couple of points off. I don't get too hung up on counting it exactly either, since I don't eat the points anyway. I'm playing with the idea of eating just 4 of them, so as long as I know I'm getting 4 points of exercise, then all the rest is a beautiful gift to myself. <smile> Thanks for bringing the AP counting up to my awareness... it's always good to check to be sure we are staying honest. <grin> Marlana > One note - as a fellow bicyclist, 10 points for riding a tandem sounds high > > for me. Guest guest
Dear Marlana, I've just started my Week 4, where I can add AP's. Ladies at the WW meeting said they would never up their points and count AP's, but they were plateauing, too. The gals here seem to count them and lose successfully, so that's where I am this week: eating more! It's hard to get used to it, and I fear a gain this week, but I want to give it a good two weeks to mess with and see what works for me. I was not losing much the last 2 weeks before this, so what harm is there? I'm going for it, let me know if you're going for it, too. We are not afraid to count AP's that we earned!! Of course, it's important to count them correctly and not over estimate my workouts. I'd love to hear from more who count AP's and still lose fairly consistently, and from those who are wanting to stick their toe in the water and give it a try. I guess I can try eating the four, as you suggested and see if that makes any difference. I so appreciate all of you. I read all the messages, and get so much support and great ideas from everyone. Blessings, Marlana
