Guest guest
Cath, sorry, sorry, sorry! on the way to the city on New Years eve I comented that I had not been to the city for at least 12 months, my husband said 'but didn't you come in on Friday to meet someone', I stopped breathing then and there! I completely forgot, I'm so sorry and I hope I didn't muck up your plans in any way! I will be coming up to QLD in April/May so I will take you out for an apology drink. Thank you to everyone for your support and encouragement. We had a fanastic Christmas (a big change from the usual family fights!) and New Years Eve was even better than expected! Although I definitly should not have had those last 3 Jelly vodka shots! I'm still booked in for my op on the 22nd but I still have to have the barium meal test first. Has anyone had one? what is it like? Does anyone have a hernia? and if yes, has it affected the band in anyway? Best wishes to everyone heading for more surgery, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Great to hear you did so well ! I hope I come through it as well as you. The liver thing? did you modify your diet before you had the op?, I read something about going on to liquids before the op, my surgeon hasn't mentioned that yet, I see him again on the 9th but I would hate to find out then that I should have already been doing something and then have my op put back as if I have to wait till Feb I'll have to put it off for 2 months till after my hubbys transplant. Thanks again for everyones support and well wishes, I hope I can return the favour. Guest guest
KEL, I've had one of those tests once before (barium) they make you drink this ikky stuff they say it's like a thick thick shake! (yeah right) a bit more like downing cement mix *lol* then you get a teeny amount of this super fizzy stuff too! my nurse then made me jump up and down and then rubbed my tummy for a few minutes to get the solution moving round! all in all not that bad an experience just not too tasty! *lol* Hope this helps? No.......nobody (meaning my Dr's) mentioned that I had too!! I do vaguely remember other posts with people saying something about large livers but honestly didn't take much notice, *Whoops* obviously I should have!! Too late now, hopefully it is on it's way down......lol. )
Guest guest
> Cath, sorry, sorry, sorry! Not a problem Kell. I figured something had gone wrong. I planned to stay in on Friday anyway and have a day kicking back and watching my pal's collection of DVD's. It is nice to have nothing to do for once. Barium Swallow I have quite a number of barium meals/swallows and there is nothing to it. There are two types which I have been sujected to. One is like a peppermint chalk drink and the other is a pink drink that tastes like aniseed. Beings I hate aniseed with a vengeance this was not a pleasnt experience. It doesn't hurt, it is just something that allows the xray to see exactly where everything goes. A lot of us have had to do the barium meals after surgery to make sure our pouches are okay. There are various regimes that doctors recommend prior to surgery and I cannot say for sure which is the best. I have never heard of the fluid one. I have heard however, of people being on low fat for the week prior to surgery. My dietician has also said that certain supplements are good prior to surgery to assist in healing. Prior to my next surgical procedure I will be taking a few things like zinc to help things along. Better run, Cath - Brisbane PS - I will hold you to that drink when you get here to Brissy. Guest guest
Welcome back Cath, Hope to make it to the meeting on 13th. It would be great to meet you all. I am so looking forward to this holiday and change of scene that I could just get lost in Queensland and stay there. (in my dreams). We lived there a long time ago in Wynnum-Manly. I guess a lot has changed now. Take Care and good luck whichever way you decide to go. I guess you need to sumise "Can I achieve what I want if I keep the band"? My thoughts are with you. Gail (Stormy) Date first band: Nov 16, 98.Height: 172 cm (5' 8")Weight then: 136 kg Date 2nd band: July 31, 00Weight then: 98 kg Weight now: 88.2 kg Total lost: 48 kg Fill: 3.3 mlSurgeon: Prof O'Brien - Melbourne. Back! Happy New Year to Everyone. I have returned from my travels to Sydney and I have to say that it was a strange experience to be away from my emails for so long. I have to say that I am glad. I started to read through the tonnes of mail that arrived during my holiday and then decided that it was too hard to get through it all. I am sorry if there was something I was supposed to respond to and haven't. Sydneysiders - Thank you for going to the trouble of getting together and meeting up with me. It was fantastic to meet up with you guys. - Glad to hear you are a true blue bandster now. The Year of the Switch - Like Jo, the New Year brings with it the anticipation of the switch happening. I have recently been thinking about keeping my band at the same time. I think it is just that I have made such an investment in this that I don't want to lose all over again. 7 weeks will fly by and I always have Jo to watch for the first few weeks to see what I am heading for. Brisbane Meeting on the 13th - Address Corner of Ross and Durong Streets Newstead ( Opposite and Wacker and The Wharf restaurant) 12.00pm Anyone is welcome to attend these meetings and we always look forward to meeting new people. I, personally have gained an enormous amount by meeting with other bandsters face to face. Have a great week everyone and a prosperous and slimmer 2001.
