Guest guest
Hi Regina, You are still in the very beginning stages of SCD...... and there are a lot of big changes going on in his gut. Hang in there..... I think you're doing fine. It takes many weeks of ups and downs for some kids. This could just be the way his body is manifesting die-off and rebalancing of his digestive tract. I would suggest you keep doing what you're doing and give it a few more weeks. I mentioned something about the gritty poops in another post this morning. I wouldn't pull back the fruit unless he is eating a huge amount of it compared to other foods..... but it sounds like you are balancing things well. I do feed my daughter beef and pork...... but only organic. I use more chicken that the other meats, usually because it's less expensive. I think chicken and turkey are more agreeable in taste for some kids and versatile for recipes. Not sure if that's why. Some parents may have chosen not to use beef due to the mad cow thing...... which, to be honest, is why I use only organic beef, and thank GOODNESS I decided to do that a couple of years ago, since I live in Washington state, where the last mad cow fiasco originated! Patti, mom to Katera, SCD 10 months tomorrow. 3 wks SCD need advice please Hi everyone, My son has been on the SCD for 3 wks. After a week his poopies became more solid, but this only lastes a few days. Now they have returned to being loose again. They also have a gritty texture. He is not eating any nut flours or butters. He is only eating pork and beef chop meat with pureed carrots, green beans or squash mixed in, chicken tots pan fried in safflour oil, pear sauce, ripe bananas, and white grape juice mixed with water. I have only seen slight behavior and overall improvements. Am I doing something wrong? I make everything except the juice(WELCHES). Should I limit him any further. Should I take all fruit away for now. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance. Regina mom to 4 1/2 SCD 3 wks ASD PS I have noticed that many parents don't give their children beef. Does anyone know why???
Guest guest
Regina, How much fruit is he eating? I know we had to be careful not to give too much in the beginning. I think I tried giving pearsauce every other day and maybe one banana per day. Maybe just limiting the amount will help. About the beef: My son has never tolerated ground beef very well. We use a lot of ground turkey. I think it just depends on your child. Take care, Gia Mom to Jack and , SCD 7 mos. > Hi everyone, > My son has been on the SCD for 3 wks. My kids do eat beef; they prefer it to any other kind of meat, and eat relatively more of it than other meats, although I do try to balance throughout a week. My kids seem to do well on it. -- Sue, mom to Adam and SCD 4 months
Guest guest
I have two sons on this diet - one for celiac and one for autism. Both of them went through lots of stool changes the first few weeks. It was interesting because for the most part, they followed the same pattern. It think it is from different stages of die-off. Now diarrhea is a thing of the past. As for beef, over time I have used less and less for several reasons. It seems every time I have bought ground beef - regardless the source, it often has alot of gristle and sometimes even bone (or at least something hard like bone in it). For this reason I have been turned off by it. It also tends to go bad much quicker than ground turkey or chicken. Since I live in Southern California where there has been a grocery store strike since October, meat on the shelves are not as fresh as usual. I find if I don't cook ground beef the same day I buy it, it goes bad. I also tend to lean toward ground turkey or chicken because it is lower in fat and easier to digest. I still use beef for stews and steaks periodically. > Hi everyone, > My son has been on the SCD for 3 wks. After a week his > poopies became more solid, but this only lastes a few days. Guest guest
A thought - have you double checked ingredients in ALL supplements? I know at least a couple kids were having " cycling " die off/improvement, and moms found illegals in supplements. Also, are you sure he's not getting something illegal at school, on the bus, at daycare, or anywhere where he is out of your sight? Just a couple of possible things to check on. -- Sue, mom to Adam and > Hi everyone, > My son has been on the SCD for 3 wks.
