Guest guest
My son has been SCD for 12 weeks. We started goat yogurt at the beginning of January at half-one teaspoon for about a week. Nothing dramatic happened good or bad. We had to stop because we ran out of goat milk. We restarted at 1 teaspoon on Feb. 4. By Feb. 9 we moved up to 3 teaspoons 2 times/day. Everything seems fine but yesterday he had 1 stool that was dark green and a bit softer than usual and smelled a bit like goat yogurt. He had it right after his yogurt last night. Since then he has had normal stool. What could have caused that? Does it mean he is not tolerating yogurt or could it be die-off or could it be nothing or 1 bad digestive moment? He loves the yogurt. He always has solid stools which have increased since starting SCD. He has been casein-free since July but he continued to regress after going GFCF. I almost felt like there was something about GFCF that was hurting him even though we were doing a healthier version of it than many (ie. sugar and additive-free). My gut instinct is telling me that yogurt is good for him. We are trying to heal his gut. I am thinking of continuing with the yogurt and maybe increasing the amount but going 1 week on 1 week off to avoid an intolerance. Any yogurt opinions would be appreciated. Guest guest
It's just my opinion, but I believe the yogurt may cause a little bonus round of die-off for some kids. Just go slowly...... Guest guest
Hi Hope, I think you are doing the right thing by very slowly increasing the amts of yogurt. It allows you to cut back if needed and more acurately guage any reactions. As long as his stools continue to bounce back I stay with the yogurt - just continue slowly. People have reported that die-off picks up again as they add yogurt. I always look as it as the " good guy " bacteria are kicking out more bad bacteria and setting up a healthier microfora in the gut. Probably why his stools were green. You're doing great!
