Kinda scary that 41% died of heart disease though.
Guest guest
Just what I need Marty - to know how high my risk of having a heart attack is as I'm driving to dialysis (just about to leave now). Just kidding I already knew that, but it just goes to show that we have to be particularly vigilent about our cardiovascular health. Incidentally, my neph just started me on Lipitor last week. Thanks for posting the link though. I hadn't seen that article. Guest guest
I had no idea the correlation was this great. Guest guest
I've had it stressed to me regularly the importance of keeping fit, it's hard at times and I've had to cut back, it also apparently helps you tolerate higher creatinine levels. I've noticed if I have bad kidney pain and I do some exercise it eases the pain, it's probably the endorphins. Dialysis causes heart problems in the long term also. My dad has a plastic aorta and one duff kidney, all down to a double whammy of inactivity and smoking. > I had no idea the correlation was this great. > > In a message dated 5/20/03 2:20:54 PM Central Daylight Time, > hallma1636@p... writes: > > << www.kidney.org/general/news/ckdhighrisk.cfm > > Link to a recent news article. >>
Guest guest
I didn't like that statistic either, but on the other hand, knowledge is power, and the m more we know, the more we can be proactive and live lifestyles as healthy as possible. I guess that brings up the need for exercise again, and watching our diets. Also, many of us have high cholesterol in conjunction with our IgAN, and cholesterol lowering drugs can really help to improve our odds too. Guest guest
Hi all just a note of caution on the statistics, its a one off study as far as I can tell and I think we need to bear in mind the old saying lies, damn lies and statistics! (sorry any statisticians out there) The thing is if that statistic is followed through, by the end of 2003 only 20% of the original group in 1997 are still alive and I find that hard to believe or have I figured it wrong? W UK ps Connie, did my reply to your kind question slip through the ether or did it appear?
