Penny...... No, you don't suck at this. You just need more help than we've

been able to give you so far. I wish there was something I could do. I think

you've got a huge challenge going on now..... with the yeast problem. I have to

admit, I have not battled that so I can't say I've been there. I really hate to

see you taking any more foods away because you already had so few. But, I just

personally feel that there is something about the pork rinds that have created

more of an issue for Kenzie in not accepting other foods...... in that they

satisfy his appetite and his need to crunch on something without giving any

nutrient value in return.....just pure fat calories. I think if you took those

away and left the other things in, you'd see a difference.

I am bummed for you, too.... it's just not the way SCD is supposed to work.

You're not supposed to have to be fruit free...... in fact, he's GOT to have

some carbs coming from somewhere. But I think if you don't take the pork rinds

away, you'll never get him to try anything else. I know that's just my

opinion..... but even though Elaine says pork rinds are legal, she never meant

for them to be a mainstay in anyone's diet.

Would you like me to contact Elaine and ask her opinion on what you should do at

this point? I would be glad to do that. You've gotten him to accept the cinnamon

cookies, right? Is there any chance that he might eat more of these if he didn't

have any pork rinds around? If so, you could very, very gradually add just a

teeny tiny bit of cooked squash to the cookie dough....... even just a few

teaspoons to the whole batch. Then if he accepted that, advance to another

teaspoon or two the next time. Then maybe some other type of veggie..... just

inch by inch, increasing so incrementally small each time that he didn't notice.

We really don't want you to quit..... we want to help you succeed. But what I'd

rather see is him eating only chicken and bananas and grape juice... than only

chicken and pork rinds. That just won't do at all...... that's zero carbs....

you can't make that work. There's got to be a solution........ and I guess I am

just trusting that he would start accepting more things if pork rinds just

weren't an option. I would consider them illegal *for Kenzie* at this point. I

know you're stuck between a rock and a hard place...... I just wish we could all

help you. I feel bad that my comments made you feel worse...... I really hope

you won't give up.

PS..... is Kenzie taking any probiotic?

I know I suck at this. That's why I'm ready to quit. If I take away fruit,

take away pork rinds, take away honey, that leaves me with chicken which he

hasn't eaten in three days and white grape juice. That sounds healthy. I guess

I'm just not cut out for this with such a picky kid or a lazy mom.

Patti and All:

I appreciate your support and your attempt to help. Part of my problem right

now is I'm major sleep deprived. I've been waking up every night for 2-3 hours

and not being able to go back to sleep. All I can think about is this diet. He

actually isn't eating much of anything the last three days because of the yeast.

I think it's just too painful. In fact he didn't eat any pork rinds today. I

just don't know what to do about lunch. Can I use any fruits at this point and

if so what is the least of all evils? It's so hard to limit him. If he wants

one banana, he wants ten. I would love it if you ran this by Elaine. I know

she will probably scold me for what I've done but maybe she has some ideas. I

spent all morning trying to make a spaghetti sauce and squash fries. No luck.

I can't even think right now. I think I need a serious nap.

Thanks

Penny

Dearest Penny,

What I admire in you is the fact that you KEEP posting about how

things go and how you feel about it. If I were in your shoes, I'd

probably want to all solve it on my own again. Instead, I hired a

chef and I have hired a cleaning woman some years ago, just to

prevent myself from breaking down. But I needed someone to tell me

that and force me to pick up the phone and make some calls.

Do you think you can get someone to help you for a couple of hours,

just so that you can get some rest? Your mom or dad, your neighbour,

a friend? These are not easy times, but try to keep focus. Suppose

your son will expand his diet, he'll only get healthy stuff, he'll

feel better, you'll feel better...
