Guest guest
Hi Mark, I am afraid I am not familiar with all her meds, but the lipitor should not cause weight gain. I would look each one up for you individually, but since I am at work right now, I can't take that much time. However, here is a link that you can enter the drug name and it will tell you the side effects of the meds, including if weight gain is a known side effect. http://www.pdr.net/HomePage_temp\ late.jsp Hope that helps. Guest guest
My wife, Soonyoung, recently changed medicines and is now taking Hydrochlorothiazide in addition to Lipitor, Plendil, Cozaar. She has gained a lot of weight recently and thinks it is the meds. Does any one have knowledge or experiences that could shed light on this? Thanks, Mark
Guest guest
I've had no problems with lipitor, but cozaar kicked my kidney deterioration off again and left me feeling quite ill. > My wife, Soonyoung, recently changed medicines and is now taking > Hydrochlorothiazide in addition to Lipitor, Plendil, Cozaar. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks. I tried that site and the search engine is under repair and then other links seemed way to complicated and probably for Doctors. Lots of Doctorese in the documents that came up. So I tried WEBMD and the Hydrochlorothiazide can do either of these to affects: * increased hunger or thirst; nausea or decreased appetite So she might be suffering from increased hunger and that is resulting in the weight gain. Of course she asked why couldn't she be afflicted with the decrease appetite side affect. Thanks for the tip. Guest guest
Mark, I think it would be extremely rare for the typical small dose of hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) to have any side effects like that. HCTZ is the single, most used diuretic and blood pressure pill in the world, and it's been around for ages. Weight gain on it would be extremely unlikely, and in fact, the opposite would be more likely. In people with kidney disease, it isn't likely to remove much fluid, but it can be very effective for lowering blood pressure, when added to say an ACE inhibitor. I'm not sure that any of your wife's medications are known to cause much of a weight gain. Among them, Plendil can cause some swelling of the ankles and feet.
