Guest guest
, Please know that I'm thinking of you as you are dealing with the stroke like attacks this morning. I do know you have been under some recent stress and stress is a major factor with this disease. I hope you can get plenty of rest and recover quickly as you must be feeling very tired. My prayers are with you too. Thank you for thinking of everyone else. Alice --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Guest guest
, so sorry to hear about the stroke like attract this morning. Do hope you are feeling better. Why didn't you want to go to ER I have always been told a person only has a few hours to get to the hospital, to reverse the stroke. I have had ATI but never a full blown one. Are you in Houston or Dallas, I have tried calling Baylor Col. of Med. trying to find someone who is working with Mitochondria Myopathy, and all I got was " what " are you talking about. Hugs, strokelike attack > Hi, haven't post for a while, still waiting for DNA results to come > back from Baylor, texas to confirm a possible diagnosis of glutaric > acidem ia2. Guest guest
, My understanding of stroke like episodes are that IF they are truly a stroke like episode and not a regular stroke, there is nothing that can be done outside of rest and nutrition. Stroke like episodes are do to energy depletion in the brain and a regular stroke is do to a loss of blood flow. I don't believe a stroke like episode will show up on a CT or MRI scan like a regular stroke will. If I am wrong about this, someone please correct me. Guest guest
Maybe it was a MRS, as they can measure things like lactic acid and other things that a regular MRI can't. Guest guest
yes, that was it I believe. I know it was a special kind of MRI machine. strokelike attack > > > > > > > > > Hi, haven't post for a while, still waiting for DNA results to come > > > > > back from Baylor, texas to confirm a possible diagnosis of glutaric > > > > > acidem ia2. Guest guest
Lilsis I have read (somewhere) that a 10% glucose IV is the treatment for a stroke like event to give the brain fuel. That is what they did for mom. They then had to give her insuline to help to process the glucose. For others, her symptoms were almost gone the next day and she didn't need any therapy. It is assumed that it was a stroke-live event rather than a regular stroke due to the fast recovery. They didn't give the glucose because she had mito, but it seemed to do the trick. laurie > > , > > My understanding of stroke like episodes are that IF they are truly a > stroke like episode and not a regular stroke, there is nothing that can > be done outside of rest and nutrition. Guest guest
A PET scan can check for glucose in the brain and since that is the fuel for the brain, it might show something. This is just a guess on my part as to it showing something. laurie > > Maybe it was a MRS, as they can measure things like lactic acid and > other things that a regular MRI can't. > > LilSis
