Guest guest
Hi all I have a special needs brother who is functional but is slow in the motor skills area he has had a job for the US Post office for 35 years, he lives with my Mom. about one month ago his boss called and said that there was some thing wrong we had a meeting and they mentioned dementia and asked for a full physical,We had one and every thing seemed fine. we chalked it up to a lot of his friends and supervisors are retire and he doesn't get along with one of the leads and he just did want to do things his way, and not the way that they were asking him to do. So now every thing seems fine UNTIL Saturday my Mom called and said that he was asking her 8 times if the mail came when he had already gotten it, He said that my son was missing but he had come home for lunch and just left, he went up to Bartells to get his bus pass and come home and said that he did not get it. I went down to Easter and started asking him questions and he was confused disoriented and could not remember things. I took him to the ER they did a cat scan, blood tests, urinalyses, EKG, and could find nothing. I am making another appt for him on Tuesday to see a neurologist. This might sound selfish BUT I cant have another dementia person in my life I am over whelmed now as it is. PLEASE PRAY FOR ME HUGS JAN
Guest guest
dear jan oh, lady, i am crossing all that can be crossed that you don't have to go down this road again. AND IT IS NOT SELFISH TO NOT WANT TO. you cope with so much on a day to day basis as it is. i am hoping for you and your brother all the best things. how is duane at the moment? are his legs any better, or is he any more reconciled to them not being what they were? sending love and hugs your way, jan. claudette
Guest guest
Jan This must be so hard for you and your mom. Did they check your brother's electrolytes and sugar? I'm guessing they did, but these things come to mind. I will keep you in my thoughts. Guest guest
Jan, My mother had a period where she was also rather disoriented and her problem was that she was dehydrated. After she was re-hydrated and her electrolytes were back in order, she got MUCH better. I just wanted to mention it just in case they didn't check this at the hospital. Please know that I am thinking of your family and that it is OK to be scared for your brother and the rest of you too. You WILL be OK though this too.
