I'm home!

Yay! I'm very happy to report that I am HOME! I had an upper GI

yesterday and everything went through, although my digestive system is

still sluggish. I have a gastrostomy bag to ensure that my stomach

doesn't get distended again. I don't wear it unless I need it. Needless

to say it is a classy accessory. Too bad it doesn't come in a nice red

leather or maybe a natural calfskin. I see the doctor again next week to

have things looked at. I'm hoping at this point it's going to be all

downhill; just learning what I can and can't eat, gaining some weight

back, and soon getting the tubes out.

Thank you as always for all of your support, prayers, the flowers,

balloons, emails, cards, etc. Every single one brightened my day!

I sure hope so! I'm feeling pretty good today and just did a two block

walk with my honey, so I think I'm home to stay.

Thanks

I did end up back in the local hospital last night when one of the sites

where I have a tube wouldn't stop bleeding. Called 911, ambulance to

hospital, found out my hematocrit (red blood cell count) is low and had

a CT scan to rule out internal bleeding. The good thing is, everything

looked normal. The upshot was my crit was actually higher than the day

before and the bleeding did get stopped so I came home. Today I just

feel very weak, not hungry at all, and tired. We didn't get home until

3:30 a.m. On top of that my husband took my mother to the hotel where

she was going to catch the morning shuttle to the airport. She got out

of the car, hit the lock button, and shut all the doors locking the keys

in the car while it was still running. He ended up having to walk back

home in the dark a mile through a bad part of town, get another key, and

walk back (we have only one car). What a hassle. By the time we both got

to sleep it was 4:30.

I'm hoping that yesterday won't have a repeat performance. I'm going to

try to get into my doctor Monday or Tuesday and see if there is

something he can do for me for energy level. In a way I feel like I was

better off in the hospital on TPN (total parental nutrition through an

IV) and lipids (also through an IV) but I know I have to start learning

how to eat on my own and get enough calories in. Ironic, huh?

I'm just getting so tired of feeling sick. I know it will pass and I

know this is better than pancreatic cancer in ten years, but still...I

am so tired of it.

Tory --

I have no words of wisdom but please know that I will remember you in prayer.

I join all the others in wishing your a speedy recovery.

I've never had surgery as invasive and extensive as yours, but I do remember

my recovery after a pretty nasty surgery -- things started to turn around

after a period of my feeling just awful. I started to think I was never

going to be the same ... and then, the next day, felt a little stronger.

I'm hoping that will start for you tomorrow!

Thank you so much Vicki. I know that's what will happen. I'll feel awful

for awhile and suddenly one day I'll notice I'm feeling a little better,

then a little better, then a lot better. I just wish I could get some

food in me. I've eaten 13.5 points today and I'm not hungry to eat any

more but I have to have at least 20.

I just wish I could be as competent at journalling as you are -- I know that

is key in a successful weight loss journey. I'm working on this!

Good luck eating (this is the ultimate irony, isn't it?)

I do not eat anything until AFTER I write it down. That is my

cardinal rule for journaling. I am absolutely obsessive. It doesn't

matter if it's a restaurant, work, home, of where. Write it down

FIRST.

Yes, I do carry it everywhere. I go to the meetings and they give

you one every week that folds up and is about the size of 2 sheets of

paper, front and back. It folds up. I carry my points book (the

small one they give you at the 1st meeting) in my purse, along with

my palm with the wwcalc program. I get the whole thing out at

restaurants with family and friends. I'd also do it with co workers,

etc., unless it was some really formal occasion. I didn't do it at a

party or at my son's friend's Eagle Scout ceremony. I knew that I'd

be a little off program those days and basically ate whatever food I

wanted, just very small portions. It's not easy, but it really makes

the difference in staying OP for me.
