Guest guest
My understanding is that this is an " unlisted modality " , CPT code 97039. Since it is superficial heat, we treat it the same way we treat a hot pack. We feel it should be " bundled " the same way. It does not require the skilled service of a therapist. It can be performed by an aide. We use it to " prepare " patients for ther ex 97110, which is one on one time with a therapist. We do not charge separately for the service because we do not feel it meets Medicare criteria. Guest guest
I have a copy of a CMS article (A162) from 2006 regarding fluidotherapy coverage. It states that one or two supervised visits may be appropriate to determine effectiveness and to optimize equipment control settings. Additional application sessions can be self-administered and do not require skilled intervention or oversight. These may be reported as " non-covered " services. The CPT code CMS requires to use is 97039 - unlisted modality and report only one unit as constant attention is not required. You will need to include the word fluidotherapy in the comments sections for billing. Does anyone have different information from CMS that is more current? Dudi Wittwer, O.T.R.
