Blue Sky vs KCI Negative Pressure System

Since the patent ruling on the KCI Vac Pac system occured, we have been trialing

the Blue Sky product. While there appears to be significant cost savings

associated with the Blue Sky product, we've also had significant issues

obtaining and maintaining the negative pressure dressing seal around the wound.

Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how have you resolved it?

Also, if anyone has used both systems, what are your impressions of the Blue Sky

vs. the KCI product?

Thank you,

Yes, the ruling was not " patient " it was a " patent " ruling by the courts

essentially saying that the Blue Sky product is a unique product which

does not infringe on the patent that KCI holds for its Vac Pac negative

pressure device.

So, now there are two negative pressure devices on the market.

Competition should drive down cost, if both products work well. I

figure our hospital could save over a 100K/yr, if the products are

comparable.

I wondered what kind of clinical results others have had with the Blue

Sky product.

Jeff,

We have been using the Blue Sky product for a few months with excellent

results at out 80 bed SNF/Rehab facility. The nurses really like the fact

that you do not have to cut the dressing to fit the wound.. which was time

consuming. We really haven't had alot of problems with the " seal " and we

have used it on several " weird shaped " areas, including a large abdominal

wound. Also so far the customer service from this new company has been

EXCELLENT. Of course since this is a fairly new product they are trying very

hard. We found that the training CD-ROM was very good and we can pop it in a

computer to train staff as needed. Noreen
