Oasis Medical Group - VST Myodynamic® Treatment Device

I was approached by our lab directory about the Oasis medical group

and their VST estim device to treat neuropathy and other conditions.

Our Lab director told me he went to a meeting last week at a

podiatrist office that is using this system to treat mainly

neuropathy. The podiatry office is doing all the treatment with the

use of this VST estim device.

Has anyone out there had any dealing with this company or this

device?

The research on their website is over 10 years old, with nothing

referenced in the last 5 years.

Any input will be appreciated.

The company website is oasismedgroup.org if you want to look at it.

Thanks.

Sorry, I can't help on this device but I would like to share some new

evidence on infrared light therapy. D.A. Arnall et al Acta Diabetol (2006)

43:26-33. The study appears to be well performed double blinded RTC that has

much

better results than our previous study. The unit was RevitaMed Technologies

and

the treatment parameters were much longer.

On a side note the Dale Bertwell, the man behind Anodyne, fell to his death

from a fourth-floor window at Largo Medical Center.

Check out the Evidence In Motion Blog(www.evidenceinmotion.com) about

Infrared/Laser therapy. Currently I find it hard to purchase a

laser/infrared device until there is more data available and better

reimbursement to cover the cost of purchasing a machine. Is anyone having

success getting reimbursed for infrared or laser? What codes do you use?

What is the amount you are typically seeing for reimbursement? If anything

it seems that infrared has a more immediate future than laser. Our capital

purchasing requests are upcoming and we are undecided about purchasing a

unit.

In last months EIM on MIRE you will see comments from one of the authors

of the study(Arnall) as well as myself. Arnall currently teaches at East

Tennessee State University Physical Therapy Department. For those that read his

published study there is a clarification--the control leg did have a placebo

unit attached so that the patient was blinded to the treatment. I know of at

least one more study in the design phase currently that is taking into

consideration the data to date. As for the reimbursement, I agree it is poor

and at

this time would be an expense.
