Hi!

The only ICD 9 codes I could find for speech are the following:

Speech

defect, disorder, disturbance, impediment NEC 784.5

psychogenic, 307.9

therapy, V57.3

I hope this helps! .

You cannot on billing except for those where the speech rev code matches timed

CPT codes and use those cautiously based on payer and area. We do use a timed

based unit conversion internally for monitoring productivity.

List Serve,

According to the CPT codes developed by the American

medical Association, the majority of CPT codes used by

SLP's to bill for services rendered are service-based

and un-timed. With that being said, some insurance

payers (i.e. State Medicaid programs) do reimburse for

the CPT codes used by SLP's in 15 minute increments.

Follow the specific payer guidelines that you are

billing.

You are correct, commonly used speech CPT codes are service based, not

time-based. Hospital systems will often assign times to track

productivity, but the code is service based. Use your 2006 CPT Reference

Guide as a resource.

Good luck,
