Guest guest
we pay a differential for working 2 or more Saturdays a month, for PTA it is $24/hr and PT it is $40. This seems to be an incentive for new grads, but not the more experienced therapists. OTR/L Director of Rehabilitation Cerenity Residence on Humboldt-TCU ________________________________ From: PTManager [mailto:PTManager ] On Behalf Of bashuert Sent: Tuesday, January 02, 2007 2:00 PM To: PTManager Subject: Shift differential and other pay incentives in the Inpatient environment We are a 550-bed inpatient hospital, plus IP Rehab, Transitional Care unit, and SNF. Recently we have had a few therapists leave to practice in area nursing homes, etc., that pay more, and thus are looking again at our pay structure. Do you offer any of the following or other incentives that are helpful? 1) Increased pay for weekend work (shift differential)? 2) Increased pay for therapists who regularly " float " between departments? (all those mentioned above). 3) Increased pay structure for PRN therapists (who predominantly work weekends)? 4) Pool Therapists?? Thank you in advance for your feedback. Bettyann Shuert,PT Asst. Guest guest
We are an 800+ acute care hospital...no SNF, outpatient, etc. We cover our weekends with Weekend Therapists who get a generous shift differential. We have not had any difficulty filling these positions. When our weekday therapist cover weekends (vacations, illness, etc), they receive a weekend differential that is different then for those who have hired in to these weekender positions. While therapists generally work in specific inpatient areas (trauma,ICU, stroke unit, ortho, etc.) all are expected to work in other areas if their case load permits and team members need assistance.......there is no extra pay involved. We also have a " PRN " pool (stipulation is that they work 8 hours per pay period if needed, one major and one minor holiday... otherwise it doesn't make sense to keep them in the pool and con't to pay for annual regulatory education, etc). They are paid an hourly rate well above the " staff " therapist rate (by the way, staff therapists are salaried), and do not have benefits.
