Guest guest
Elaine: I am a physical therapy billing service and what I find is that you are able to bill almost any work comp carrier when you get the referral from the patient's work comp doctor. There may be a small discount because you are not a provider but this would get you started. Medicare is o.k. and Private insurances is where you would hurt the most if you are not a provider. Hope this helps. I am sure you have done your homework. \ Frances Therapeutic Billing Sol. Etc.
Guest guest
Texas has passed a new law last year allowing carriers to form work comp networks and all of them want big discounts and they control the referrals. It is a royal nightmare. Check with your State Work Comp Commission or Department of Insurance for what is allowed in your State. Guest guest
I have never found being a network provider for w/c to be a big issue either way. The patient could care less because the money is not out of their pocket so they go where they are referred. The physician is not big on watching this as the pt. will not come back and complain to them. The only one really involved in it is the work comp case manager and they do direct some patient care but not a whole lot where I live, most of the case managers are remote and handle things by telephone. Guest guest
From my experience, California has the same policies for Insurance companies forming networks and then reducing amounts they pay. If you do not join their network, they prefer the patient go elsewhere for their treatment so they do not have to pay as much. Yes, it is a royal nightmare here in California too! As for a small discount because you are " not " a provider (email from Elaine who is a PT billing service), I find that to be the opposite. If you " are " a provider for the network as I stated above, that is when you have to take the discounts.
