Guest guest
Thank you Katy I am going to go & start calling Noahs dr.s now & my obgyn. You made me feel better Carolyn (Mommy of Noah)
Guest guest
Carolyn- If you can give them the general problems-if there were any- with your pregnancy, don't worry if you can't get a copy of your record in time. Maybe they can fax her any info she needs later. I would make sure you have all of the measurements on Noah, though. All of his weights and lengths and the dates they were done. They also had me bring in pictures, so they could see what he looked like when he was certain ages, and they compared the pictures to the weights. I only saw Dr. H. and the " fellow " ( a doctor who is training to be a pedi endo) Like I told you earlier, though, we waited 2 1/2 hours for our appt. I'm getting some info for Dr. H. for our next appt., so don't worry if there are some specifics that you don't know. Especially being nervous, like we were, there will be somethings you forget or get wrong, but having the measurements was the most impt thing. Hope this helps, Liz
Guest guest
I agree with Katy that the worst part was definitely the waiting. Dr. H. was firm but kind with the kids and was really much easier to deal with than expected. - Liz
Guest guest
Thank you I called the pediatrican & the ob/gyn & they both were getting the papers ready for me to pick up tomorrow. I thank you all & if there is any other questions or things I should now please tell me I just want to leave that place knowing what is going on. Thnak you all.....Carolyn (Mommy of Noah)
Guest guest
Hi Carolyn, Have you been keeping any copies of any records from all your past visits? Any written notes? Try to collect all the info you have and organize it by date. One thing that I have learned the hard way, is that as parents, we, and we alone, need to be the gatekeepers for all medical information related to our children. So, it may be a pain, but I would hound your OB/PEd/Specialists offices and ask them to immediately fax or have copies of your records ready for you. Believe me, you will fill much more in control; you will feel much more informed, and your visit with Dr. H. will go smoothly. Even Dr. H. misses information. She once told us that we should have had 's IGF levels tested, when indeed, we had already given her copies of all his test results. The only way we were able to stay on top of the conversation, is that we had read through all our records and knew exactly what was going on. So, I know it will be tough, Carolyn, but I think it will really help your conversation with Dr. H. if you are as well informed as possible. The other thing I'm sensing is that you seem really stressed and worried about your visit. Even though we are telling you about Dr. H's " bedside " manner, to be quite honest, I think it is painting an unrealistic picture for you. ANd, might I add, somewhat sexist! We think that women doctors need to be nurturing, lovable, sweet people. She simply is firm, to the point, direct and candid. I would not call that bad bedside manner. ly, I found her to be a breath of fresh air. I turn to my friends and family for love, pats on the back, etc.. I didn't expect Dr. H. to make me feel better. I expect her to help grow to his potential. So, you will find her on your side. I would also say that a better way to describe your day in New York is " chaotic " and " mindboggling waits! " ....The worse part of the visit will NOT be your time with Dr. H., but the time waiting and needing to entertain Noah while you wait! You will be so relieved by the time you see her, that you feel a great burden lifted off of your shoulders. One way you could start off the conversation is to simply say, " Dr. H., I have to tell you that I'm a little nervous. Please help me to understand exactly what I need to do and what questions I should be asking. " GOOD LUCK! Katy
Guest guest
Carolyn Do you have access to a fax? Call any of the doctors that you can and ask them to fax you the files. Some doctors I have done that with have been very accommodating. Others faxed me a release form to sign first, I literally signed it as it came out of the fax and then sent it right back. If not, it shouldn't take them too much time to photocopy files. Your obgyn files would be low on the priority. If you had any major medical issues with your pregnancy that would be needed...but for a running commentary you could probably handle that yourself. I had complications with bleeding at 32 weeks and no one gave that a second glance when looking at Adam. They wrote it down, but it didn't make or break any diagnosis. Again, if you did have issues then it could be used for an alternate (besides RSS) possible diagnosis. With RSS, it is accepted that nothing during the pregnancy " caused " it and so those records would not be crucial. Get to your ped. though for at least the measurements. Dr. H. (I feel I know here after seeing her video) basically wants to chart your child's progress from birth. She also calculates what she thinks your child's expected adult height should be based on your height and your husband's. She'll also want to measure the siblings. She compares their growth to the RSS child's to try to predict adult height. Again, best of luck. I'll be anxiously awaiting your email after the appt. Chin up girl and be strong for Noah!!(we'll be here if you need to vent, break down, go into shock again later!!!) Debby lulujjnono@... wrote: > Thank you everyone for everything you suggested. You might also want to consider measuring Noah's food form a day or 2 to get an idea of how many calories he is taking. I t might5 be useful. I hope this helps. However, I lived the first ten years of my life in Michigan, and was born in Detroit! I have lived a fair amount of my life in Oregon, both Portland and (gasp!) Pendleton, but have lived in Southern California-- my parents DRAGGED me there; I told people on the train that we were going to "another country," --true enough, even then! I MISS Michigan! Guest guest
Actually, there are a couple of reasons for this.I know there are a lot of poor families who cannot afford DAN! doctors. It is obvious that neither private insurance or any federal programs are going to be covering this any time soon ? So where does this leave poor families ? It leaves them stuck with mainstream doctors who have no knowledge of medical issues with autism, who only know that adults and children with autism should be pumped full of antipsychotics and antidepressants. Then there is the case of someone like myself, who knows what to do,and has found an outstanding DAN! doctor online to consult with, but simply has no money for supplements. I was blown away when I learned there are people who actually have thousands of dollars to spend on their own HBOT chamber. Subject: QuestionTo: mb12 valtrex Date: Monday, July 13, 2009, 8:43 PM This was touched upon in the Revita Pops thread recently, but it's a third rail issue that nobody wants to touch.Biomedical treatments for autism,HBOT,DAN! protocols are expensive. Is anyone aware of any DAN! doctors,or similar providers, who see poor and indigent patients ?Not arranging payments, but seeing families who are too poor to pay under any circumstances.I would be very interested in learning the answer to this.
