Guest guest
PerkyO's are the best 'cheerios' alternative out there in my opinion. There's original, apple cinnamon and frosted.. They do have some corn starch in them so they're not totally corn-free. My son loves them and he's very picky. We ended up ordering them online (case at a time) because the stores around here were not stocking them regularly. Guest guest
I have found that when doing 'alternatives' to gluten favorites, it's necessary to have a period of time of abstinence before introducing the alternative. My son was a cheetos fiend and I tried to give him Tings instead. He wouldn't touch them. A few months go by and I reintroduce them and he east them just fine. Let's just say he ate a lot of potatoe chips during the first few months of going off gluten. I like to think that maybe it just takes time to cleanse the palate

Guest guest
Hello, we have found the best way to eliminate a food (such as cheerios or potato chips) is to keep the empty package around for a few days. When our son would ask for such things, we would then show him the empty container. Instead of substituting typical items for GF/CF, have you looked at SCD? Vegetables/fruits? Huge on our side. GF/CF still contain (sometimes more) sugar. Guest guest
Kimmy - if you are going gluten free it not just to eat healthy- it's normally to remove a food source causing leaky gut. That' s why people also remove dairy b/c they chemical protein chains are very similar to gluten. It's not about being allergic to wheat or dairy either, it's about lacking the necessary enzymes to break down the proteins. For some people, the digestive enzymes help but are not always a substitute for removing the foods especially during the first few years while the gut heals. Some people do actually have an allergy to these foods, too. You Won't see results until all gluten is removed - even cheating once in a while will set most kids back until the gut heals. My son has been GF for 12 years and can now have a gluten infraction once in a great while as long as we use the enzymes. I recommend TriEnza by Houston Enzymes- it covers enzymes to digest carbs, gluten, phenols, and more. When trying new GF foods, don't expect them to taste normal. There will be an adjustment period and after a few months, the food will taste better (at least our experience). There are several GF cherrie-o's to try. Wish you all the best. Guest guest
My son didn't improve until after we removed all forms of MSG and sources of soy. There actually weren't many cereals left. Glutino has " natural flavors " and Enviro-kids cereals may contain traces of soy. He loved the Koala Krispies, but improved so much when we stopped all those cereals. He does okay with the Arrowhead Mills ones, Maple Buckwheat flakes and their sweet rice flakes. I'm not saying anyone has to do what I did, but if your child doesn't improve, you may want to give it a try. I was very skeptical because we went 8 months with no results from GFCF before I decided to try avoiding more foods...then it worked. > > > > Hi, > > > > my sons dan doc wants him off of cheerios well gluten I have taken him off > goldfish since June but I recently added back in cheerios cause i am looking > for a healthy lowfat snack and he likes them for breakfast I dont like > gluten free somuch as it all has corn in it and I dont think that is good > for us either does anybody have any cheerios alternative that tastes good? > > > > Thanks, > > > > kimmy > > >

Guest guest
For fats and proteins, he eats nitrate free-MSG free bacon and ham, organic or hormone/antibiotic free hamburger, chicken, wild Alaskan salmon, Halibut; avocadoes, macademia nuts, I make my own salad dressings and we use: olive oil, grapeseed oil, and coconut oil often. Use coconut oil on hot cereals and on veggies like butter. He eats almost all fruits/veggies (except grapes/plums). He eats gluten free oatmeal (Bob's Red Mill has two types, Irish and regular), whole buckwheat (cooked as hot cereal), Erwehorn (I think) Crisp Rice, Arrowhead Mills Maple Buckwheat Flakes, puffed rice, puffed millet, sometimes GFCF organic corn flakes. I use potato flour, rice flour and sorghum flour to make pancakes, biscuits, and cookies. Vegetables contain calcium, he also eats organic eggs (duck and chicken). The diet seems real expensive but it's not really when you remember how much stuff you are not buying that you usually would. My kids eat a lot of berries and nuts this time of year. I fix a colorful vegetable plate and they love that. We get about 1/2 our groceries at Costco and the rest at a local market. Costco has: Organic Hamburger Organic Chicken Organic Frozen vegetables (corn, peas, beans) Big bags of: Grapefruit, potatoes, etc. fruits and veggies you like Pesticide free colored bell pepper Hothouse/Greenhouse tomatoes Maple Syrup I try to buy locally too, at street stands and farmer's markets. There is enough calcium in vegetables and eggs to be sufficient. I do give a Cal-Mag-Vit D supp. occassionally in smoothies. > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > my sons dan doc wants him off of cheerios well gluten I have taken him off > > goldfish since June but I recently added back in cheerios cause i am looking > > for a healthy lowfat snack and he likes them for breakfast I dont like > > gluten free somuch as it all has corn in it and I dont think that is good > > for us either does anybody have any cheerios alternative that tastes good? > > > > > > Thanks, > > > > > > kimmy > > > > > >

Guest guest
Hi there, I was so excited yesterday to find out that Costco started to carry organic frozen broccoli (this veggie is suppose to help with detox). They also carry organic frozen berries. I don't think potatoes are organic, but the carrots are organic. They carry organic potato chips. organic corn chip, organic soy milk, organic hot oatmeal if you or your family can have any of this food. Plus eco-friendly laundry detergent, dish washer and hand soaps with great prices and they work great. Just in a last year their list of organic stuff got much longer. I hope it helps, Natasha. Guest guest
Hi , No, most of the fresh fruits are not organic at costco and neither are the fresh vegetables. If something is not organic, look at the skin on it - do you peel it off? (banana, orange, grapefruit) or could pesticide be sprayed right on what you are eating? (strawberries, plums, apples) Does it grow under ground? (potato, carrot) You can see where I am going. The potatoes I have gotten at Costco aren't all that great, but I peel the skin and they work. I avoid things that may have pesticide sprayed right on them except for blueberries, I wash these well, and make sure they taste good. I would never get enough organic blueberries for the price I would pay, we use them a lot. Another note, apples are never very good off-season. If at all possible, it is best to wait until they are in season and organic will be cheaper or you can buy local (sometimes I choose local over organic because the organic come from other countries and you have to question what they were exposed to in travel.) I know, lots of things to consider, I'm a bit over the top with food LOL. > > > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > > > my sons dan doc wants him off of cheerios well gluten I have taken him off > > > goldfish since June but I recently added back in cheerios cause i am looking > > > for a healthy lowfat snack and he likes them for breakfast I dont like > > > gluten free somuch as it all has corn in it and I dont think that is good > > > for us either does anybody have any cheerios alternative that tastes good? > > > > > > > > Thanks, > > > > > > > > kimmy > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Oops forgot to answer your fish question. I buy fish at Costco too, and at our local market. You have to be careful with Costco fish though because it may not be fresh. I will never buy Atlantic Salmon (because they add color) and wild Alaskan salmon is probably much " cleaner " . I look at the flesh and it needs to look firm, not mushy. Same with Halibut, try to get it when they first put it out. If it smells, or tastes yucky bring it back! They will give you a full refund, they're great about that!
Guest guest
We took all processed foods away for about 2 years. It paid off, we can have some cereals now for a holiday or sleepover with friends. A couple times a month we buy a box of br rice cereal or millet puffs. If your child isn't improving on gfcfsf go to the next level. SCD or BED type diets. We like body ecology diet. However I use some SCD concepts. We took all grains away for a period of time. Got the kids eating 80% veggies at every meal, cultured foods, no sugars including fruit for a period. Once we were cleaned up and he started really improving we were able to add in more. Now 4 years into dietary changes our day is still filled with green smoothies loaded with vegetables like parsely, cucumber, romaine, celery, protein powders, cultured vegetables, young coconut kefir, ocean vegetables, digeatable clean proteins. However he can have a gfcf pretzel for a party or a piece of gfcf cake for a party treat. All worth it. I kept some gfcf processed foods for about 3 months while I taught my kids to eat vegetables. ABA style, first this then this. The sweets got smaller and smaller and the platefuls of vege increased each day, week, month. If they like gfcfsf " cheerios " , use this bite by bite to teach new foods. We can keep them in autism, continue the autism with a diet that mimicks the standard american diet. Finding versions of pizza, nuggets, waffles, and cereals that are gfcfsf will keep many in autism. This won't heal the gut for many. 70% of immune function in the gut. So it's all worth it! > > > > > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > > > > > my sons dan doc wants him off of cheerios well gluten I have taken him off > > > > goldfish since June but I recently added back in cheerios cause i am looking > > > > for a healthy lowfat snack and he likes them for breakfast I dont like > > > > gluten free somuch as it all has corn in it and I dont think that is good > > > > for us either does anybody have any cheerios alternative that tastes good? > > > > > > > > > > Thanks, > > > > > > > > > > kimmy > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
We do eat Lara Bars, but make our own chicken broth (due to possible MSG as " natural flavors " in prepared brands), can't eat their dried fruits except organic raisins because we avoid sulfites, and the rotisserie chicken is in a plastic container and it's hot! (the chemicals in the plastic going into the food?) But like I said, I am a little over the top (paranoid) when it comes to food. I just threw out this brand new coffee maker I just got because I didn't want the hot coffee touching plastic. Now we use a stainless steel percalator. Guest guest
Wow , I totally agree with you. It is so true that you have to get aways from all the processed stuff, it just won't let the gut heal. Someone told me to cook everything at home from scratch. When I did that, things really turned around. > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > > > > > > > my sons dan doc wants him off of cheerios well gluten I have taken him off > > > > > goldfish since June but I recently added back in cheerios cause i am looking > > > > > for a healthy lowfat snack and he likes them for breakfast I dont like > > > > > gluten free somuch as it all has corn in it and I dont think that is good > > > > > for us either does anybody have any cheerios alternative that tastes good? > > > > > > > > > > > > Thanks, > > > > > > > > > > > > kimmy > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
I really don't think their dried apples/pears have sulfites. They are simply dried fruit. I forgot to mention they make a gf trail mix (that is by the same company as the almond clusters). Not sure of other ingredients, but it is a natural foods company. The fruit/nut bars are amazing!
