Yes, and we are very happy and fortunate!

Re: Talk

Hi ladies,

I think that I hear you say that you found someone who looks at you, and

loves you, for who you are! The person you are inside!

Well, Cy

Generally women are more accepting of people with disabilities and are more

apt to look at what aperson is inside instead of outside. This is not true

in all cases, of course. I know a man who became wheelchair bound from a

car accident. The wife stuck around until he became independent-she

couldn't stand him being independent and not needing her as much as he did

initially, so she left!

Re: Talk

Ruth our men are wonderful and god given to us. but more basic than that. I

notice most blind persons believe in god very strongly. it was not a huge

issue with me before but now. god is my purpose and I love it when others

feel the same.

happy belated anniversary. I just love to hear these stories. I met my

husband after being blind two weeks and went home to my son and said I met

this very nice man. but never did I think I would become in love and married

again. I just had the most incredible husband for twenty five years and my

life was so wonderful I never thought that could happen twice. wow, it blows

me away and gives me goose bumps just thinking of it. how can life be so

wonderful and suck at the same time ha ha.

ruth never did i ask myself why me. because i ask myself why not. my first

course i took from hadley school for the blind i realized that our bodies

fail us. no reason, they just do. i eat wwell, good healthy food, was slim

and excercise was always a part of my daily living. it just happened. that

is life. i was never one to feel sorry for myself. if i am presented with a

problem i just want to learn more about it and get on with things. to sit

around and feeel sorry for yourself is such a waste of time. i thank god

for today, you cant do anything about yesterday, and tomorrow is not here

yet. all we have is the precious now.

Hi ,

the funny thing was I was separated from my then wife. either of us was

looking for anyone. As you know Lions are famous for helping the blind.

Jackie asked if I needed any help with anything to give her a call. I did

need some help so, I called her. She has been helping me ever since.

Aren't love great?

Hi Cy,

Your right about that it's all in what you are looking for in a relationship

and I sure hope that as we get older, that we get wiser. I have one

question to ask, and excuse my ignorance, but what does the l.o.l in

brackets mean?

Ruth,

It stands for [laugh out loud].

There are quite a lot of abreviations used on computer or phone text

messages.

Another commonly used is:

HTH [Hope This Helps].

TTFN [Ta Ta For Now].

Jen,

What you are really sayiis that, somewhere, common sense does need to come

into play.

Re: Talk

A1c levels are still important but they don't tell the whole story and

shouldn't be the be-all and end-all of how control is judged. Daily readings

are important and so is considering other factors which might not be

controllable. When I was about 12 years old I had an A1c of 6.7 which at the

time was considered perfect, but this was back when the only insulins

available were regular and NPH and I took two shots a day, and you can bet

that I bounced from extreme highs to extreme lows a lot. Now my A1c is 7.3

and, even though I'd like it lower, I don't have many extreme highs or lows.

I still have them, sure, and have days like today where I was very high last

night and remained high most of today for no apparent reason. I blame it on

female hormones. When it comes down to it my A1c of 7.3 is a lot better than

that of many other 20-somethings. Doesn't mean it couldn't be a lot better,

but ... right now I have such a variable schedule that I'm just happy if I

stay within my target range most of the day. Maybe when I settle down and

get a full-time job and a more predictable schedule things will be easier to

control. And as Ruth said, some people have circumstances that interfere

with control and are doing the best they can, which is okay.

Hi Ruth,

That's what happened last night. I hadn't done anything unusual and I was 20 at

bedtime for no reason (I actually thought that maybe I'd somehow forgotten my

supper shot it was so high). I gave myself some insulin and went to bed, and

today even though I've been correcting for it each time I test I've hovered at

11 until a few hours ago when I was finally 5. What makes it more frustrating is

that I usually feel like I've done something to cause it somehow until other

women say that the same thing happens to them. I notice that my blood sugars

start going high a week or week and a half beforehand, and then once that time

of the month rolls around I crash low for a few days before things finally even

out for about two weeks before it all starts over again.

I know hormonal changes and steroids can mess up one's bs levels. The same

is true for infections and injuries plus a lot of other things, like

surgery. However I must rain on a parade of misinformation. The A1C is

today the best indicator of one's bs level for the past three months.

Believe it or not, but there is a normal range for a bs level for the human

population, and it is no where near 8.0 or 9.0. The same thing can be said

about the human body temperature, which is said to be 98.6 for the average

temperature for the world population of humans. Now barring a fever or

hypothermia a person's temperature will usually stay within 1 degree of this

average temp. At your request I will be glad to send you an article I wrote

called the Diabetic Doter. The article will tell you the average A1C and

the average fasting bs level in the human population. I have found that few

doctors, nurses and diabetic educators know the actual facts of the matter.

If you want to know what they do not know, just drop a line at:

hdbates@...

and type request in the subject field and send it to me.
