Hi Pat,

I have no clue why my insurance will not cover more of the cost of the prodogy

strips.

They say it is out of network and they prefer accucheck meters. Have no clue

why.

With that said though, I am still not totally closed minded to the prodogy, more

less just trying to see what folks are finding out with the prodogy and

voicemate.

Pat, didn't you say that the voicemate was very sensative to tempature? I think

you had mentioned that at one point.

Also, if memory serves me, the voicemate doesn't let you know if you have enough

blood for the test? In other words, it could tell you that you are 89 but in

reality the strip doesn't have enough blood on it and if it did, you may be, for

example, 150. Does the voicemate meter somehow let you know if you have enough

blood on it or if a test has failed? If not, how have voicemate users delt with

this issue to make sure there is enough blood on the strip?

Thanks!

All,

I have been on no mail status for over a year so sorry for the post since I

am sure it has been covered. I do not have the time to wade through posts in

the archives so this is why I am posting it here/now.

This is really old hat around here but wanted to just quickly get some

feedback. I need to purchase a new meter since mine is quickly dieing.

I know from Pat that there has been some talk on the list about the new

talking Prodigy meter made by Diagnostic Devices.

My insurance will cover the strips to a certain extent for the Prodigy

meter. They are telling me they can get me a three months supply for $150

but the in network meter they prefer is the accucheck voice mate and a 3

months supply of strips is around $50 to $75.

any accucheck voicemate users on list here can you please give me a quick

list of pros/cons to using this meter. I had gathered some a few years back

but cannot locate the email.

Also, any new prodogy meter users can you get me a few pros/cons to using

this new meter?

Thanks for the feedback. Based on it, I am going to take it and get either

the prodogy or voicemate so all feedback welcomed.

Hi All,

Well I just got all my questions answered over the phone comparing the prodogy

and voicemate. Oddly enough, which I was unaware of, I have a friend that is a

blind diabetic and used the voicemate. She had picked up a prodogy meter and I

did not know she had it. She answered all my questions.

My friend tells me the following about the prodogy. I have nothing to validate

this information against so take it as is since I have no clue to the accuracy

of it.

Apparently the company is aware of the need to speech enable more of the

features of the meter and are suppose to be doing this in the upcoming update

for the meter. My friend did not know if the current prodogy meter was

flashable, meaning could apply the update to your existing meter or if you would

need to purchase a new one. The update which speech enables more features is

suppose to be out soon but was not given a date. I also was told that the

company had been in touch with freedom scientific to talk over the accessibility

of the free computer application for downloading your readings and how to make

it accessible with jaws and other screen readers.

I do not know if this information is entirely accurate, but it was what I was

told from my friend and I do not know where she had heard it from.

I know that she has spoke to the company in Florida that distributes the meters

so perhaps she has gotten some of the information from them I do not know.

Hello ,

Bill Smedley Here, I have been using the new meter for about three weeks

now. I paid $ 107 and got the meter and 5 boxes of strips with one bottle

of test solution. The new meter is much easier to use, than my old profile.

Now if I could just get it too play a littl greatful deadwhen it starts it

would be great.

All,

Well due to my work schedule this upcoming week I have to go no mail again. This

means that I will still be subscribed to the list but will not be getting list

email. I just would not have the time to read it this upcoming week. However, it

was nice catching up with a few of you - you guys are great! and thanks for the

input on the meters!

If anyone ever wants to write to say hi feel free you can reach me at

jdaubenm@...

Talk to you all soon.

btw to go no mail you send a blank email to this address:

blind-diabetics-nomail

that leaves you subscribed to the list but keeps you from getting list email.

I.E you would use that address if going on vacation for two weeks. Then when you

want to start getting list email again you send a blank email to this email

address:

blind-diabetics-normal

that will cause you to start getting list emails again. The benefit to going no

mail is that you still are subscribed to the list it is just you are not getting

list email until you send and email to

blind-diabetics-normal

I have tried to purchase the prodigy from the distributor

in florida, giving MIke there my medicare number and my secondary

insurance

but he is not responding to my offer to purchase his prodigy.

so I don't know. maybe I will wait till the " little buddy, " is out.

and try that one, the " voice of the diabetic, " says it is a better meter

anyway.
