Guest guest
Anyone have any experience with treating outpatient with quadraplegia secondary to West Nile Virus? Prognosis for recovery after 7 months post onset? My patient has regained some upper extremity strength but no trunk or lower extremity function. Will appreciate any responses. Guest guest
Jerel, We had a few West Nile cases last year both inpatient and outpatient. There appears to be variability in recovery, in terms of rate and the extent of return. All had extensive PT, OT, ST in Acute, Med A, and OP. I did find some info at the time on the CDC website. Most of the longer term information is from the East Coast. There was a study with a one or two year follow up. The study, as I recall, showed a great deal of variability, like we saw. I'd recommend CDC and Medline searches. Sorry, I didn't keep the links.
