I wanted to know what my chances were for even considrering a transplant when the kidneys go completely. My nephrologist keeps teling me that the low A1C and low blood pressure will continue to preserve what I have, but the creatinine level keeps slowly increasing despite all the efforts. I'm so behind on my e mail, that today is the first I've read about this. I lost track of you off list when my address vaporized when my computer crashed. Write off list if you like, or at least accept my concern and very best wishes. I wish I had kidneys to give away free as I do books, music projects and knitting projects. I'm in doubt as to whether either of mine are in top form, but if I knew they were and we matched, you could have one of mine...duh, would my insurance pay? And, how do I check. Are you feeling all right. Are you on dialysis? I've kept up on the posts of yours I come across as I try and keep up with the mail. Are you at home or in the hospital. While I was in the hospital I had a low blood sugar of 7, that is right I said 7 and all the way up to 484 from either to much insulin or not enough which was given to me in the hospital. They were also skipping my blood pressure pills because they said my blood pressure was to low. They kept me up just about all night with coming in to either take my temperature, blood pressure, take blood or get all of my vital signs. So I checked myself out before they KILLED ME!!! There was a couple of persons from my dialysis unit that got kidney transplants, one was 75 and the other was 80. The 75 year young person got a kidney from a 13 year old kid and has had it for 5 years now. So good luck my friend and everything will work out for you. But, they are going and it hard to say at what rate. I keep the A1C down and the blood pressure down, so they may last a " while " . It is just hard to say how long that " while " is! I am just a proactive person and am looking ahead at a transplant-just to see if I would be able to get one. It actually does not look too positive because of my age and heart condition. But, we will see. Hope you are feeling well and that the Sarcoidosis is under control. I think of you often. It must be starting to be spring in Ohio. A very beautiful time of year there. My parents are going to be moving back there from Albuquerque, so I will probably be back there some time this summer-if air line prices don't go up too much more! When I was in my blood pressure seem to run high but they did not seem too worried about it. I think that it was the cuff they were using more than my blood pressure. It sounds to me like you'll have to live to be 120 to get there at the rate your cc is increasing. <smile> ON the other hand, if you end up with a transplanted kidney, you'll get a pancreas with the deal. No, they will not, under any circumstance do a pancreas transplant; but that is okay. I don't know as I would know how to live without taking insulin! (It would be funt o try to learn how, though!) But because of my age and heart problem, they told me I would not well with a pancreas transplant-it is much more stressful than the kidney one and requires the use of more medication than with just a kidney.
