Guest guest
HI my name is Russ Nieland and I have a clinic in Minnsota. Laser is not reimbursed at all by any of our insurances and I was told by the company that sold me the unit that I should charge it as a infrared which is about 3.00 per treatment. I also recieved a letter from our medicare handler that is not a proper code and to stop using it. So if you bought a unit currently you can not charge for it untill it is assigned a number or take the risk of getting audited for inappropiate charging of modalities Russ Nieland, PT, CHT, CEO Northern Arm and Hand Center NorthStar Rehab and Sports med. russn@... Cold Laser Hello. I would like to know if anybody has information on reimbursement for laser treatments. Does private insurance companies reimburse it? Thanks Flavio Silva Assistant Director Physical Medicine Maury Regional Hospital Columbia, TN __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I had answered several emails privately and copied a section to answer the reimbursement question below. I use the Erchonia Laser and it is not " point and shoot " and requires understanding in treatment paramaters, therfore the below explains the billing (or lack of it). Some lasers have an infrared component to allow billing for infrared but using heat with the laser diminishes the effectiveness of the laser as the body works to disapate the heat. As for billing.... I do not charge for the laser. When used properly, you are doing two things at the same time, usually range of motion, isometrics or MFR. Since you can not bill two timed codes at the same time (initially the temporary code was times), I do not bill for the laser. So what is the benefit? For me, just improved patient care results, I already had a waiting list. For those without it, it is a big marketing tool and some of the physicians have seen such good results, they will pick a clinic with the laser over any other one. I struggle to find local clinics to save patients gas. There are now 3 and soon to be 4 local clinics with the Erchonia I can refer patients to.
