Guest guest
Hi Cassie, The other day on another site, a person who new about a new item that would read labels talked about its use . It is an hand held magnifier but when you scan it across the can it reads out loud what it just scanned. I think it would be wonderful for us blind people. The problem he said was that it will be rather expensive. but what a help. Guest guest
Hi Pat: I might check carbs in the dog food if Cassidy had a weight problem or if he was Diabetic. With him I have to watch for stuff like corn, wheat, beef, and most important of all, potatoes. My boy is seriously allergic to potatoes and will get an ear infection if he happens to get hold of just a small amount of them. Becky and Cassidy, Pilot Dog, Poodle maddpoodle27@... Guest guest
Jen, I can't use those type of machine, but I have a friend with one and she loves it. It is compact enough to carry with her when she travels, so she uses it extensively. Re: Reading Labels There actually are small, hand-held CCTVs which can be used to magnify anything placed under the camera, such as food labels or mail. They're about the size of a Braille 'n Speak, for those of you familiar with that technology. I'm hoping to get funding for one this year, because it would help me with teaching, but I'm also looking very forward to being able to calculate carbs using food labels without having to seek sighted assistance. I'm not sure I would use it shopping, though, it might end up being faster just to go with a sighted person or get help from a store employee.
