Guest guest
Hello group, Our Hospital has just completed a " Bariatric risk assessment " in addition to a number of physical plant issues the area of staff training and education was noted to be a problem. Specifically the assessment asked about " formal training and retraining for the specific needs of the bariatric patient " , " sensitivity training " , " does nursing have advanced training in bariatrics " , " are all ancillary staff adequately trained and experienced in bariatrics " , " does the facility have documented evidence to support that all clinical providers have been specifically trained in bariatrics " etc. Our facility is now grappling with these issues and I would like to know how other facilities are dealing with this issue? The physical plant issues could have an enormous financial impact on a small rural hospital. Have any facilities set a weight limit on the patient population they can competently handle? If anyone on the listserv works at a facility with a specific bariatric program do you have any information about what worked well in training and preparing staff for this issue? Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Eileen Casey, PT Dir.
