Thanks > Best wishes to you. > > ----this is the other Lynn (no E). The e. coli is from the anal area. It doesn't cause problems in the intestinal track but it does when it moves to to front. If it gets into the vagina, you can get Bacterial Vaginosis and if it goes into the urethra/bladder---you get bladder infections. It is NOT the same as enterococcus. Enterococcus is a strep infection called Strep D (some women have strep B in the vagina and strep A is strep throat etc). This particular bacteria is hard to culture as it is gram + and requires a specific test. It causes the same symptoms as E. Coli does though. Septra will not work for it. It is very resistant and usually amoxicillin or ampicillin are used. Hope this is helpful. You can do a search on Enterococcus for further information.
