Guest guest
Melinda, I just wanted to say, last April, I went to Jamaica. On the plane ride over, I was burning a lot. When I was in Jamaica, the burning wasn't so bad - the rectal burning was bad but the vulvar burning was bearable. I even had sex one night with no burning the next day. That was the last time I had sex. I also attributed it to being in the salt water for so long. What I'm wondering is if the salt water actually relaxes the vaginal muscles and relieves the tightness? Just because I know people who do Epsom salt baths to relieve muscle aches. Seema
Guest guest
I'm on another list and a while back there was a discussion about salt water. Seems the gals lucky enough to be able to swim in real salt water, not just sea salt in the bath, got relief. Guest guest
Seema, I read your post here and it's funny you should mention rectal burning because I was going to post something about that today. Today, I am dealing with some real bad rectal burning.... Any suggestions for comfort? Let me know. Thanks, seema_sura wrote: Melinda, I just wanted to say, last April, I went to Jamaica. I have a jar of vaseline mixed with vicks (1/4 vicks and 3/4 vaseline) which I spread on very thinly occasionally and it gets rid of the pain for a while. Sometimes I use an aloe vera ointment (CarrasynV) and that will also get rid of the pain for a while. Again I spread it on thinly. I use rice flour as a dusting powder and it helps a lot. I only use Basis soap - none of the others. Ora

Guest guest
Melinda, Hard water can be a chemical irritant when you bathe. I live in an appartment where filtering the whole works isnt possible. What I have done is put a Nikken shower head filter on and even if I am taking a bath I run the watter from the shower head. I have noticed that bathing is now less irritating then it was before. I dont think that it is the only cause of vulvodynia symptoms by any means, but it can certainly make irritated tissue worse. Guest guest
I have vvs and I think that the hard water I bathe in is what actually caused the problem in the first place. When I moved to another province that is when I immediately developed this problem. I am going to check into getting a filter. I don't know if I will eventually get rid of vvs by doing this, but hopefully it will ease it dramatically. Robyn Bunny wrote: Melinda,Hard water can be a chemical irritant when you bathe. Guest guest
I didn't start with anything new when this started, but when I was on vacation in mexico, i had absolutely no symptoms the entire time and they came right back on the plane ride home. HMMMM, I thought the same thing, that I was just having so much fun, that I didn't notice anything. Maybe I will try the bottled water thing and at home, change my filter on my fridge. Does that work okay, a filtered fridge? Melinda wrote: Has anyone ever heard that water can cause vulvar problems. The specialist I saw last summer, don't know how much I would agree w/ his input, since he insisted I had some strange yeast, which never came up after almost 2 months in the lab, asked me if I had recently moved when I noticed the burning. I thought about it and I had just moved back to my home town a month before all of this burning started. Where I was living while going to college had very soft water, where I live now has hard water(more mineral, I think) anyways he said if I can't find any other cause he has known some women who the water if causing the problem and they have to have all of their water pipes purified which is very expensive. I never pursued any of this, b/c its hard to know for sure if thats whats causing it.What do yall think? I thought i might should atleast start drinking only bottled water rather than tap water for now.The other weird thing is during my honeymoon last March, on a Carribbean Cruise, I didn't notice the symptoms except for on the plane ride there and then planeride back home. Of course the water was different and I spent alot of time in the ocean salt water. Mabe it had nothing to do with that and my subconscious just repressed all of the burning since I was on my honeymoon.Who knows, just curious if anyone has heard of this before?Melinda_________________________________________________________________Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com*****END OF MESSAGE*****-------------------------------------------------To post message: VulvarDisorders To Subscribe: VulvarDisorders-subscribe Unsubscribe: VulvarDisorders-unsubscribe List owner: VulvarDisorders-owner *****
Guest guest
I think it may be more than just having a good time on vacation. I also went on a vacation to San Fran and the burning was bad on that vacation. So, I noticed how all of us that talked about our vacations shared the beach in common. It must be something about being in the water for a long time. Weird! Seema Has anyone ever heard that water can cause vulvar problems. Guest guest
Robin and all, I am new to this group and finally diabnosed as having vvs. I also have severe chemical allergies. Including CHLORINE--which is usually used to keep municipal water supplies clean. Hard water requires more chemicals to clean it because things don't dissolve in it as well. I think it may be part of my problem too, but I have not had the money yet to invest in a water filter for the shower/bath or whole house to find out for sure. I am so glad to have found this group--this dumb problem has caused me more tears than being depressed ever has!!! Meg Melinda, >
