Guest guest
Jeana: This definetly is not a hoax. This is how a man who raped me before I went to school to become Salvation Army Minister found me. To me any anyone else it is not funny and I wish there was something we could do but I don't know what. I have not received any calls in over two months thank God but he also has a map to my house. The police do know about it and there is nothing they can do unless he shows up. I get nervous when I have to leave town but God watches over me. Just to let you all know this is true. Guest guest
Also, all you have to do is put your name in as well and your phone number comes up that is how this guy found me. Because I get transfered and he is free now so he just entered my name and found me. Ronda

I don't understand the danger. If someone knows your phone number already, they are probably somewhat trustworthy anyway. What are you afraid they might do? Guest guest
I tried it, and although my phone number is listed in the phone book, my address is not. When I went to the MapQuest link, it displayed a map of the business district of my town, which is over 25 miles away from my home and a completely different zip code. That makes me feel a little better. Llinda Fellows Anchorage, AK

Guest guest
You don't have to have a computer to get listed; but you have to have access to one to see that you are listed...we did not even have one the time we were listed as living somewhere else!!! They get the info from the phone book and I just found out that insurance companies get our ages, addys, phone numbers, etc. from the parish clerks/tax assessor's office. > > Google has implemented a new feature wherein you can type > someone's > >
Guest guest
Hi, The phone book doesn't give directions to your home, but any of these and more do. all you need to do it put the info in: a regular map Street finder program. yahoo maps map-quest maps And many others ... In this age it is quite difficult to live incognito. If someone REALLY wants to find you they can and eventually will. If you choose to, you can have your info removed from such sites. But you may be very busy keeping up with it. You may want to be sure to mention your privacy desires to all friends and relatives, so they too will hopefully keep your info as private as possible. In addition to this, You may also want to have your "Birthday date" removed from all those sites that list your birthday on those online calendar reminder services. That is info that could be used in identify theft. Unfortunately, once again that can be difficult because as soon as a friend or relative puts your info into one list for their own convenience, this info can once again be in the system. Remember too, every time you buy something online or over the phone you have possibly made your personal info available to unscrupulous types. This would include the ever popular ebay or any other auction site. In which millions of people have direct access to your information there. Cordless phone waves can be picked up by others and your online emails can be tapped into. Everytime you write a check, show your driver's licence, social security card, ID card or use a credit card, much of this same info is out in the public ... so to speak. You never know who may come in contact with this information thru the course of everyday life. You will also have to not give out your email address so freely too. I have heard there are ways to get this same info with your email address. It is more difficult, but there are some with these skills. Also any Police officer can get all this info and more from your Licence plate. As a safty and convience factor I have caller ID and an answering machine on my phones. One should only take calls from those they know or choose to speak to. The rest can leave a message. You can then choose from any left messages if you want to respond. Those who choose not to leave a message are forgotten about. Also NEVER EVER answer the door to anyone you don't know. Delete emails from unknown parties, is another good rule too. These are just standard safety rules. It becomes a personal choice. Do you choose to try to live in private or do you want to use modern conveniences. If you choose modern conveniences, then you take a certain amount of risk for those conveniences. I choose to use modern conveniences. I feel there is a certain amount of risk in everything I choose to do/or not do. Every time I leave my home I take a risk. I could also be the victim of a random act of crime or violence, I think that is more likely to happen than to be stalked. I guess I naively choose to believe that most people are good and don't wish to harm others. I also am not emotionally strong enough to be living in constant fear or worry. My trying to get well and care for my family takes up the vast majority of my time and energy. But I do try to follow some common sense rules. Just my thoughts on this, Sue ..
