Hi all,

How many of you have children with developmental disabilities (seizure disorder being a secondary), who have complications with regularity, and who will probably always have this problem, rather than it being a temporary problem due to the ketogenic diet?

I need to find out what you have done that has been successful, and what is safe to stay on permanently. Also something that will not cause cramping?

has always been able to go almost every single day, and for the most part, her BM's would be soft. But, every week or two, she would end up having larger/harder BM's, causing her to have small tears, and also to start hesitating when she had to go. This has caused her to hold back some, and not empty out all the way.

We'd been on Milk of Magnesia, up to 3 TBS. along with her Cal/Mag Zinc liquid, but she would still have those occassional "elephant poops".

We recently started on Miralax instead, but after two weeks, she was still not having an every day BM, and the gastro. felt that she needed an extra push in that direction, so he recommended a temporary "fix" with x-lax - just to get her going everyday, softly, then we'd go back to Miralax.

Well, the miralax had caused some gassiness, and with her first x-lax last night, this morning, she has had terrible stomach cramping.

For 's disability, it is very common for irregularity to always be a part of her life, so I need to find something that will be safe, and will keep her regular.

Just keeping her on a diet of high fiber, lots of fruit, etc. would not do the trick, as most of the children with her disability do need something.

However, a lot of them are on meds. that have sugars, or high carbs, but we are unique, since we are still doing a modified version of the diet. has to stay on fairly safe things.

If anyone has had this problem, and has been successful with something, please let me know.

Thank you for your help!
