Funny how we all react differently to Elavil. I take

a very low dose (5 mg.), but if I take it at dinner

time, I'm in a coma on the sofa by 8:30! LOL So I

take it before I go to bed, and sleep like the dead.

It doesn't make me groggy in the morning, but perhaps

that's because the dose is so low. On the other hand,

it hasn't done a dang thing for my pain. :)

Hi everyone!

I've been a list member for a little while but this is my first post.

Regarding the elavil--I go to the vulvar clinic at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I had not wanted to go on elavil because of all the side effects I had heard about--weight gain, sleepiness. Well, they now have a compounded cream version of it that they get from a pharmacy. It's elavil mixed with a muscle relaxant. I've been on it about a month and have had a good amount of reduction in pain and no side effects that I am aware of.

I had never heard of this compounded cream before but since it seems to be helping me, I thought I would tell you all about it!

Rose,

Is Amitriptyline the generic name for Elavil?? My doctor started me on it on Dec. 18th. Like you I am seeing little results so far.. My doctor currently has me on 25mg a day. There were a couple of days that the burning was a tad bit better but not enough to even begin to get hopeful about.. I am having a really bad burn day today.. I just had my little cry for the day (like that really helps anything), but I am just so sick of this 24/7 burning. Some days I feel like just telling my husband to give up on me and divorce me and find someone who is normal down there.. I go back to the doctor on Jan. 2 for a re-check to see how I am doing on the Amitriptyline.. Boy is he (my doctor ) gonna get an ear full of belly aching on that appt. Sorry if I am sounding so out of it today.. I am just literally so depressed from having to deal with this 24/7 burning every day for over a yr now. I know some of you have suffered a lot longer than me, but I guess everyone's breaking point is different.. Sorry to ramble on.. I hope the Elavil helps you and you get to feeling better real soon.. Still haven't gotten my biopsy results back yet from Walter Army Medical hospital in Washington. That is where they had to send my sample to for analyzation. My husband is currently stationed at Fort Army post in Kentucky but we live on the Tennessee side.. Anyway, Best of luck to you.. Hope your suffering ends soon. God bless..

I would recommend the one which at.

http://www.ic-network.com/ Click on ICN SHOP, then on CUSHIONS.

Or you can make one yourself but you will need extra firm foam and the cost of

the one at the website is reasonable. I made my own a couple of years ago -

very similar to the one shown.

Daphne,

My pain started suddenly. One night while I was laying in bed, I felt a

terrible

burning on the one side of my vagina, so of course, I thought I must have a

yeast

infection, although, I've never experienced that kind of burning before.

That's when

all the disappointing doctor's offices trips began. Each time he would

take a

swab and they would always turn out negative. I've been to numerous

hospital

emergency depts. with the same run of tests, urine, blood, swabs and of

course,

nothing. You wouldn't believe what I've been through. I had a ba enema,

OUCH!!!!

sigmoidoscopy, double OUCH!!! because at the time my pain was near the

rectal

area, funny eh? Anyhow, everything was normal. I had a pelvic US, again

normal.

My OB/GYN examined me and told me there's nothing wrong with me. That is

why

I am going for a second opinion. Did I tell you that my burning and pain

is mostly

on the right side? I also had rt. buttock and leg pain, but that seems to

be a little

better. I've had my estrogen levels tested and they appear to be in the

normal

range. OH, I also had a pelvic x-ray which shows early degenerative disc

disease,

and muscle spasm on the right. In Feb. and Mar. of next year, I amj having

an

EMG and CT scan.

I thought I should mention that I have rosacia and have been on antibiotics

for quite

a few years whenever I have a flare up. Could that have caused something?

I'm just

wondering and will have to ask my doctor the next time.

My wonderful man is not giving up on me and is very supportive, and I thank

God for

him, but sometimes I feel he should find another also and have even told

him. I think

he's in it for the long haul.

I'll keep on with the Premarin and hope there's some healing down the road.

As for

the Elavil, well at least I'm able to sleep at night because it knocks me

right out.

Keep in touch:)

that is good to know for future reference!! I also found out that antihistimines can be drying to tissue also, I have been taking allegra for about 4 months , it helps keep the swelling down and controls other skin hives and stuff I have with this now I need to think that through too!!

i am so glad it worked for you and hope it works for others, I was simply cautioning someone who is 4 months into this not to take that as the only answer. The stuff was pushed at me so hard in the begining,as being the only answer!!
