Hi,

I am finishing up my 4th month of weekly TAXOL (paxitaxol) next Wed. To date I have pratically NO SIDE EFFECTS. The worst thing I have to complain about is occasional heartburn. OK, I take that back - the worst side effects are the hairloss and the pound a week I have been gaining thanks to those Steroids. I was tired last week, but may have been fighting off a cold or flu as the kids and hubby had one or the other. My blood counts have remained almost perfect. My DR mentioned that even though the weekly treatments were a pain, they really are mild and much more tolerable than the treatments that are spaced further apart. I have also read that closer treatments don't give the cancer cells time to grow between treatments. I have heard of others getting muscle aches on this protacol, but I have Rhumatoid arthritis, and my Dr feels that my medication for that will keep things in check. So far so good on that one. But just tell the Dr if you have a problem and I am sure they will give you whatever you need to handle the situation.

Just for the record, not everyone loses their hair on TAXOL. I have a friend who never lost 1 hair on it. I just wish I could say the same for myself ... maybe you will be one of the lucky ones.

I hope you find this information a help with your decision.

Hi,

I forgot one of your questions.

I have skin METs so I can visually see my progress.

I visually started to see a change -- daily ... just after my third treatment. Coincidentally it was the same time my hair fell out.

I am one of a few who had horrible side effect from taxol. I had N & V that

was horrible. I could not even keep down a glass of water. I developed

neurophothy in my feet, legs up to my knees, and my hands. I only had two

treatments. I was so violently sick that the onco decided not to continue

with the taxol and I completely agreed. the neurophathy has almost

disappeared after 4 years. It is just in the balls of the feet and my

fingertips. I hope you get other views, because I am a little biased. lol

Hi Polly and welcome to the group. I never had taxol but some of the ladies

have. We also have a sister group Stage IV where you might find some ladies

that have had to make a similar decision. You might want to join there too

as most of them have had their breast cancer spread to various parts of

their body. Here is their url:

I will keep you in my prayers and please keep us posted.
