Guest guest
oh - It's SO complicated. What exactly are AUTISM services? hmmmmm... I haven't seen anything " specific " in my situation. I have a full copy of idea97 that I printed. It's 143 pages long. I started reading and hiliting, but didn't get very far. If I come across something, I'll post it. There is a Yahoo group that deals specifically with IEP's that I am on (BJ is too). It's called IEP_guide. There is a lot of information there, but you'd probably have to hire someone to filter thru it all. Like I said, I will look and if I come across something, I'll post it. In the meantime, I hope someone else has some ideas. Pam's post was GREAT, as you've already stated. Penny
Guest guest
Here is my understanding...504 plans are for kids that require accomodations. IEP are for kids that require special Ed. But alot of SPED kids only receive accomdations and not modifications to content. Does access to other services constitute SPED? If you have a smart kid that can just perform at or close to grade level with accomodations can you get them to provide more services? So many questions. The feeling I get here is that the team thinks they have to find a classification to serve and that if they don't classsify him primarily as autism that he can not receive autism related services. So, if a child can recieive services for multiple disabilities even if they do not neatly fit into a category, but do fit the description of sped then how do we access things like autism services? Would he still be able to access referal services for say OT? Can a district be held accountable to assist a child that is gifted but performing at a standard level, not failing, but no where near what the child should be performing at because of their disability? IDEA regs anyone?
