Guest guest
I wanted to let you all know that our citizens passed a $3.88 million bond issue on Tuesday to build a City Hall/Police Facility. So...in 18 months to 2 years (crossing fingers for good weather and smooth sailing) we will be moving our police department out of an office building and into a secure facility. It is my understanding that the City plans to sell the bonds in the very near future so that the architectural phase can take place during the winter months and they can break ground in early spring 2003. If all goes well, they anticipate moving into the facility early in 2004. The budget on the project will be tight, I think. The City already owns the land, which helps. I have heard that they already cut about $200,000 out of the budget for the police section of the building. (There goes the new furniture and some of the dispatch equipment.)I hope that isn't true, but it probably is. At any rate, I wanted to let you know that we're doing the happy dance out here at LSLPD. We're finally going to get a police facility that is safe, secure and healthy. (No more having to share restrooms with the general public and prisoners!)
