Suzy,

Same exact symptomps I had with the fissure!! I told the doctor

it was pinkish blood as well. And the burning is from the anus. I

was never constipated and never had any problems back there, and I

still got the fissure. Definitely go to a proctologist! I know it's

not fun, but the procedure was not bad - I did not have pain and I

had a sigmoidoscopy done on me. My procto did not know the cause -

he says most people get it from hard stool passage, but I did not

have that. He said stress too, but I still don't buy that. I think

that I got this from antibiotics.

Anyways, my procto first put me on hydrocortisone. Totally did not

help me - only thing that helped me was nitroglycerin. So, if it's a

fissure and the HC does not help you, ask him for the nitro. Also,

right now, sit in warm water several times a day for 10-15 minutes.

One other thing that is supposed to help is to put vaseline there

before a BM - some kind of lubricant, so that the fissure does not

tear every time you have a BM. Hope everything is OK - am thinking

of you.

thanks for the reassurance, Seema! I'll try the

vaseline thing and the sitz baths. Today's b/m (sorry

to be graphic!) was fine - no blood on the t/p and no

blood on the stool, either. God, I feel so weird:

not only *inspecting* my stools, but *writing about

it*, too! <LOL> Did you always have bleeding, or did

it come and go?

I'm gonna call my doc Tuesday. If she feels I need to

see a procto, rather than come in and see her, I'm

hopeful she can recommend a doctor who is familiar

with vulvodynia! It sure seems more-than-coincidental

that so many of us have rectal problems, isn't it?

Like you, I am befuddled by this. I eat about 30

grams of fiber a day, drink lots of water, never get

constipated, etc. Everything I've read on the web

says I should *not* get rectal problems, but here I

am. Sigh.

Thanks so much again.

Suzy,

The bleeding did come and go. Sometimes, it would be about once a

week. Is your doc a primary doctor? Just because whenever I asked

Dr. (gyn) whether I should go see a procto, he said no and told

me to keep using hydrocortisone. When I took matters into my own

hands and saw the proctologist myself, then he saw that I had a

fissure. By the way, I know what you mean - I thought to myself, I

can't believe I'm talking about stool with my boyfriend!
