Guest guest
Welcome back Sissi. The irony of life sometimes. Just when I know I can't possibly be further behind or have even less of a life, that does indeed become a reality. I'm sorry Boone is having a hard time with his teeth. We found a wonderful pediadontist and he did Chris's work under general anesthesia also. It was a God send. We went in with and the staff was marvelous at the hospital with him. He was anestitized with gas first so he never felt a needle and it was out when he woke up. He was a little disoriented but it was okay. had something like four or five fillings, seven or eight root canals, and like ten caps all done at the same time. So how is Boone doing otherwise in school? That's pretty neat that Amber wants to be an OT, and yes I can certainly understand your reservations about marriage. They are so young. Now what's this about a libel suit? What's going on there? Good gracious girl!!
Guest guest
Glad to see you found your way back Sissi Sorry to hear you are still in the midst of problems both personal and professional, I just hope you have support. How is Boone doing at school? Jay started this year - so far he seems to be settling in ok and academically he is doing well but he seems to be getting even harder to engage and as for social/conversational skills...forgetit! I wish you luck with the law suit and I'm glad you sound so confident about it...Middle children <shrug> I can't really give you any advice there, sorry, although plummeting grades and acting out could all be related to the break down of his family - that wouldn't be unusual I guess...it's nice to hear that Amber has some things going for her, although marriage is a scary thought for such young people. Contagious obesity? Hmmm.... Yep, I'm divorced, but he's still around -- sort of. Long story. > I don't know, Sissi, that sounds likely. How old is he again? It might > be a combination of age and middle child. has been more difficult > this year too; he is fast approaching thirteen, that dreadful age. Dillon's only 10 -- but Dr. Wahbeh has always said he was " older " psychologically because of his illness. When he was 9, doc said he was more like a teenager than most teenagers. > The Autism Center is teaching Putter to brush his teeth well himself since > it has been so impossible for me to do it (and he is getting bigger all the > time). I suddenly realized that he will be getting permanent teeth in a year > or two (my kids are late with their permanent teeth) and baby teeth may not > matter but permanent teeth DO! So we have to get him in shape for that. They try to teach Boone at OT too -- but he's having none of it. He is extremely oral defensive -- besides that, he can't wear a shirt with a collar at all anymore. They literally make him vomit because the gag reflex is so bad. > > He is very, very autistic folks. I think those dummies who evaluated him > may > > have known what they were talking about after all. > > > What do you mean by that? Salli, he's very, very smart. Dr. Rubin (his developmental ped at Emory) actually said he was a savant -- which I've always suspected anyway. Boone typed a list of 1-800 numbers he'd memorized on the docs' computer and typed a list of times with their equivalent in military time. He also told him what time it was -- without a clock (Boone's favorite parlor trick) and a lot of other neat things. Boone was in a very good mood and we prepared him for the visit. He was actually excited about going, so the appointment was not unpleasant. But I had no idea he was going to show off like that. However, His obsessions sometimes threaten to take over completely and are very problematic. The spinning is a real problem these days. His speech hasn't improved much at all. I sometimes think he will never be " really " verbal. On the other hand, sometimes phrases just pop out of him that make perfect sense -- just not very often. > And I already read that you can't talk about it but you expected to win. > Silly anyway. Where would you get $10 million? Sounds to me like blood > out of a turnip. That's for sure! The really funny thing about this is -- the attorney for the plaintiff is Matt's sleazy attorney in our divorce and he knows exactly how much I got in the divorce settlement. No where close to $10 million, but a pretty nice amount that I can live with -- unless the pig tries to take it from me. Glad to hear the kids are doing well. Good luck with Robbie's speech eval. Putter's teeth are terrible. So much oral defensiveness that I have always had trouble brushing his teeth. He had them repaired when he was three and a half and he will be having more done this summer. Boo, hiss. Examining him is pretty hard too, but the pediodontist can do a brief check. I am not sure preparation is really possible. The Autism Center is teaching Putter to brush his teeth well himself since it has been so impossible for me to do it (and he is getting bigger all the time). I suddenly realized that he will be getting permanent teeth in a year or two (my kids are late with their permanent teeth) and baby teeth may not matter but permanent teeth DO! Guest guest
Silli Nice to meet you. I'm very sorry to hear about Boone. How old is your " middle " child? I'm fairly new to the group. My 2 1/2 year old daughter was diagnoised with autism in November. She has made alot of progress and we believe that she would probably test PDD if we took her back to Children's. But since I'm not stupid we aren't planning on doing that. I wish you the best of luck with your daughter. G

Guest guest
Hi Sissi!!! Nice to hear from you! Sounds like you've been very busy as usual! I won't ask about the libel suit because I saw you're other post first. Is Amber planning on waiting until she's done with high school or done with college to marry? What have Dillons teachers had to say about his grades? I do hope it's just a temporary set back.... I don't know if there is anything you can do to prepare Boone for the dental visit. Maybe take him there to visit and see the people with no one doing anything to him? Would this help him at least walk in calmly when the appointment comes up? Good luck with everything!
