Okay, guys. Here's the update from my ped neuro on Ben's episode from Wed.

She feels that Ben actually bottomed-out on glucose. I tend to agree with

her. Ben already tends to be on the verge of ketotic/acidotic all the time.

With all of the meds he's been on (Atrovent, Pulmicort, Zyrtec and then this

new one, Allfen), we feel that he may have gotten dehydrated (which he does

at the drop of a hat!), which triggered the low glucose.

He has no symptoms and had a fine day staying home from school yesterday

with absolutely no problems. I had removed the new drug (which is a

muco-liquifyer and draws fluids) and decreased the Zyrtec. Although he

still has a horrendous cough, he appears to be far better.

Someone asked about the flu shot and I will reply this way: Ben appeared to

have no other symptoms except the coughing on Monday. The dr was seriously

concerned about him getting the flu and I too worry since I once had a bout

of the flu that lasted over 14 days. Anyway, with my son, I constantly

worry about length of illness that debilitates him far more than he already

is. I chose to have him take the flu shot which may also have contributed

to the episode. By the way, every year when I get the shot, I always feel

like I have a mild flu, which is contrary to what ever dr says. This year

was the first year I didn't have any symptoms.

Thanks for your comments.
