We dont wear a 'uniform' but we dont have public contact either. We have a

pullover Jerzeez type shirt with a department emblem embroidered on it and

" Gwinnett County Communications " , not our names though. Its inexpensive and

comfortable. We used to wear dress blue's before I worked here, but that was

abandoned for the pullovers. We do get issued dress 'uniforms' but those

are to wear in court.

OOps, hit enter too quickly... the uniforms are to also be worn at special

details such as a ceremony, funeral, etc. We are also issued a lined

windbreaker type jacket and 2 sweat shirts. Any of those are acceptable

attire for work. As far as pants, as long as they are clean, and

appropriate.

There, I think thats all now.

Currently my centers uniform is navy blue BDU's and a polo shirt, limited now

to navy blue, heather gray or white. Prior supervisor allowed any color of

polo so there's a mix of colors being worn. Name is optional to be

embroidered on the shirts, as is having a badge stitched on.

Prior uniform was tan pants and navy blue polo.

Prior to that was dark blue pants, light blue shirt, name tag and regulation

badge.

Prior to that was gray pants and white shirts!

So over the last 20 years, we've gotten a bit more casual in our uniform.

Our county dispatchers don'e have public contact and no uniforms. They wear

blue jeans and t shirts whatever they want. The city has no public contact

either but they wear polo style shirts with Lyncomm on it and kakai pants.

We wear white shirts (they can be golf shirts or

button ups) with our patch on the left sleeve, black

pants, skirts or shorts with black shoes. You have to

wear a black belt and if you wear socks, they have to

be black. We are supposed to wear a name tag (which

is gold and pins on) with the button up shirts. The

golf shirts have our first initial and last name

embroidered on them. I have heard that while I was

gone, they have decided we can wear colored shirts now

(I think blue and green) but haven't seen this yet.

We don't have any contact with the public, but we are

on the news a lot, so I guess this is why we have to

wear uniforms. Also, on the weekends and holidays,

we can wear " business casual " and nice jeans. We are

allowed to wear black jeans, as opposed to slacks, on Fridays.

I LOVE the idea of BDU pants (as long as they are not

camouflage--I wear enough of that!) The cargo pockets

are AWESOME!! I wouldn't have to carry a purse any

longer. I love pockets.

Funny thing about depts I know that use BDU's, For station duty it seems

everyone of them has rules stating they are not to be filled for apperances

sake. Now as long as the pockets can be used, I'm a big fan of BDU's!

No point wearing BDU's if you can't use the pockets.

They certainly don't look that good---they are

especially unflattering on women, probably because

they are made just like the military BDU pants which

are designed for men. But, that is a whole other subject!!!

We are also a university dept and we're just now starting with

uniforms. We wear a dark blue polo (w/ gray long-sleeved fleece

jacket in cold weather) with university, department, and

" dispatcher " embroidered on left chest. We thought about having

BDUs or slacks for pants, but went instead with blue jeans. The

majority of the employees here are students and it's not

logistically possible to come to work, change into uniform,

change out of uniform, and still get to class on time. We're

still discussing whether we want to have a smaller version of

the officers' patch on our sleeves. My personal vote goes to a

modified patch that says something about dispatchers as well,

but we might toss out the patches entirely if we don't like the

appearance.

This is one of those times when I'm thrilled to work for a small

department. We've only got 9 dispatchers all told, so it's

fairly easy to make decisions by vote. Most of us will like

what we end up with...

*grin*
