This is interesting. I have tried to give her b/fast as soon as she

gets up because of the time lapse between dinner and b/fast. I thought the

distance between meals should be reduced as much as possible. The theory

being that whilst there is no food going in, there is no fuel from which

the body can make ketones. We've only been on the diet 3 weeks though, so

I could have this wrong.

I just had another thought.

Could it be low blood sugar causing the behaviour issues in the morning?

Me again, as you know, same pattern with , but have you ever checked ketones in the night? is always between 8 and 16 right up until 7.30 am, then regardless of breakfast time they drop to between 1.5 and 4, until the afternoon. So bedtime snacks etc, I don't think would help us. If the body is 'fasting' while asleep, surely the ketones would rise, but then, no energy is being used to burn the fat to leave the residual ketones. Perhaps 's night time seizure activity is doing the 'burning' leaving still high ketone levels when he wakes???

A mystery to me, I wish I could figure it out, no, I wish someone in the medical profession would figure it out, and help us!!!

Low Morning Ketones

Hi All. Jack's ketones have been 4 or less in the morning, 8 by lunchtime, and 16 by late afternoon for the whole 5 weeks that he has been on the diet and some mornings he is brilliant, active and talking lots, but others he is lethargic and just wants to lie around. He hasn't had seizures for over 2 years so we only have behaviour to go by. As it is coming up to Summer, the days are getting longer so Jack is waking earlier and as he is only having 3 meals a day, we have decided that we won't give him his breakfast until 7.15am at the earliest. Some mornings he wakes at 7.00 and is having breakfast straight away and other days he is up at 6.00am and having to wait (this morning being one of them). Anyway, a pattern seems to be emerging, he is 10 times better on the mornings that he has to wait for breakfast. Does this make sense to anyone or is it pure coincidence? His ketones were about 1 this morning after breakfast but they will be 8 by lunchtime I'm sure.

I think it depends on the child. I think " dips "

in the middle of the night -- whether it's blood sugar

or ketones, I don't know (she's almost black on the

stick at bedtime and moderate in the morning) -- but

I, too, try to give her breakfast first thing in the morning.--:

If it was low sugar, shouldn't he do better if he eats earlier, not later?
