Guest guest
I just read this and found out that DIV is the same as Lichen Planus--one condition with two names!! This may help those with DIV to find out more info. http://www.asccp.org/lichen_planus.asp This site says that DIV is a form of strep. I know of one girl who got DIV after oral sex with a man with strep (she didn't know he had it till after the fact). The strep is from the throat and not the group B that is more common to the vagina. http://1wms.com/omnirx/vaginitis/vaginitis_inform.htm Just some FYI Lynn
Guest guest
I just wanted to make it clear that they are not the same condition. I asked Dr. about this and he said lichen planus is completely different than DIV. I have DIV and they can't even find a bacterial infection on me. Lichen planus is sometimes considered an autoimmune disease - 2/3 of the people who have this usually have lesions in the mouth as well. He said lichen planus is associated with fusing whereas DIV is not. I think like Dee said, the treatments are similar but the symptoms of the condition are not the same. Autoimmune is just a " theory " which means it may or may not be, they don't know. Or in doctor terms: we can't figure it out yet. http://www.doctorswhoswho.com/medical_library/diseases_conditions/wome n/vulvar_vaginal_lichen_planus.htm Here is another. The fusing comes from scarring. This one does not talk about autoimmune. It says they don't know what causes it. http://www.med.umich.edu/obgyn/vulva/lichenp.htm This one is very interesting--suggesting co-conditions like ulcerative colits and hepititis. http://www.emedicine.com/DERM/topic233.htm .. Guest guest
Thanks for the information. I will ask for more clarification from . He told me this is not lichen planus and he said it's a night and day difference between DIV and lichen planus (his words!!) I just wanted to let everyone know that all of the symptoms listed do not always apply. For instance, I have a white discharge (not yellow-gray) and I have DIV. Also, I don't have any bacterial infection and they've tested for everything!! also said I have no evidence of fusing and he did say on the majority of his lichen planus patients, there is evidence of some fusing. Also, in terms of autoimmune, I talked to a doctor last night who believed my DIV was caused by a drug induced reaction to Bactrim antibiotics. Her sister had a drug induced reaction to an antibiotic that caused desquamative inflammation in the mouth. She said it behaves like an autoimmune disease in that it attacks healthy cells, but it does not mean it is an autoimmune disease. Her sister got well after 6 months - but she told me that it can take a long time. Her patient went to see after a reaction to a topical cream - it took 2 years and now she is fine - she had to see davis once a week sometimes. Anyways, that's my take on it - if you guys have specific questions on this, could you send them and I will ask about it. Thanks. Hi Seema, Just a note about ---I have found that he can contradict himself. He did it 2 times when I was seeing him (one my husband caught). Just wanted to pass that on as my experience. I know someone with DIV who has a whitish discharge. She said it burns like acid is dripping on her. I am interested in the reaction theory to topical creams. I didn't get my problems until after I used monistat yeast med over the counter (2 complete 7 day doses in a row). The yeast went away but I have burned ever since. No bacteria, no lesions, no nothing. Then it progessed to my anal skin burning and now I have urethral pain/achiness and sometimes bladder pressure. Had a cystocscopy and he said nothing is wrong other than the trigone area is inflammed a little (that is the part that connects to the vestibule from behind the vaginal wall) and since my vesitbule is irritated, the trigone is too. That area is like a plug in a piggy bank. They share the same tissue but on is inside the bladder and one is the vulvar area. Anyway---let us know how things are going. Guest guest
Lynn, Just wondering, is this person you know with DIV getting better? I'm just trying to find some hope in defeating this, as I am not responding to the Cleocin or the steroids so far. I can't believe he contradicted himself like that - I know you've decided not to see him. I have an apointment with Dr. Willems in San Diego on November. I know I keep going to doctors but I just want to be cured from this!! What did diagnose you with - I too used Monistat after the Bactrim (the doctors thought it was a yeast infection when it was not and it greatly exacerbated my problems). How long has it been since you've had this problem? I'm just wondering since that lady took 2 years to get better and am hoping that in your case, your body will recover as well. Take care!
