Guest guest
Jess had her first and only drop seizures a few weeks after the dep wean. And I know other kids have done similar things. Thing with dep, is the withdrawl problems seem to show up a lot later in a lot kids than with the other drugs. I would ride it out for a while, watch for signs of acidity and see if you need to modify the diet a little, a lot of kids needs that after getting off the drugs RMDRAGER@... wrote: Hello, Sure hope someone out there has some good advice. I completed my son's Depakote wean about 3 weeks ago. We did notice an increase in head drop seizures throughout the day, we expected it. What we didn't expect was a new type of seizure that causes his whole body to stiffen up and his eyes to dart to one side. It looks like quite an intense seizure. It lasts between 40-160 seconds. They seem to be getting longer. Is this a withdrawal seizure I'm seeing or is something else going on? If anyone has seen this in their child, especially after stopping depakote, please let me know. I'm almost considering adding some depakote back. Your experience is greatly appreciated. Marie, mom to
Guest guest
It could just be that the depakote was controlling this kind of seizures??? My little girl was thrown off all her meds for a week-long video-eeg and since she was doing so well, they told me to keep her off the meds and se!!! Hell ensued. She had the horrors. I'm sure she was having visual and auditory hallucinations (NOT happy ones!) She is still (that was back in July) having several memory stealing seizures. Sunday she had fifteen words left. She's not walking very well at all and even standing is difficult. She's not sure about appropriate responses to anything, for example, emotional, (hug her, she bursts into tears, I burst into tears, thus reinforcing it all!) So, good luck! Who knows what causes what! Praying for you! see ya patti oo \/
Guest guest
Hi Marie We went through a very tough dep wean with our son Mike, aged 5. He took his last dose at the end of Jan. About three weeks later he developed a new seizure type- I guess you would call them complex partials- very weird behaviors and non responsive to sounds or commands. These occured during the night on several occasions and each one lasted for several hours. They scared me alot at the time- still get shivers when I think of them. But we did attribute them to the withdrawl of dep. i have heard of many kids who develop transient but new seizure types after weaning dep. They may last a few months and so it is hard to know whether it is withdrawl or if the dep was simply controlling the type of seizure. It is a hard call and usually only waiting it out will tell for sure. Hope this helps. Good Luck Faye RMDRAGER@... wrote: > Hello, > > Sure hope someone out there has some good advice. Guest guest
Hi, My son had a few drop seizures for the first time, after finishing depakote. The wean was tough too with sleep sz on particular days after dropping the dose. Then about four months after he had sleep sz again for a couple of months. I think other kids too have seen sleep sz 3-4 months after stopping dep. What you are seeing may well be withdrawals. Check to see whether a different ratio is needed. There is a theory that dep hangs around a long while in the fatty tissues after youv'e stopped taking it. The neuros probably wont agree on this. Some don't even acknowlede withdrwals -----which definitely do happen. We stuck through, as we thought they were going to end. Do whatever you feel comfortable with, if you put back the dose, you can always wean again slowly. Good luck Saro......Rohan's mum
