Guest guest
our sensory issues I read this thread with some real interest. How about this one: I cannot wear fingernail polish because my fingers feel like they are suffocating. I also cannot wear lipstick for the same reason. Weird. ***** I can wear fingernail polish so long as it doesn't get on my skin. It is more the smell of the polish that bothers me! Now lipstick bothers me a lot!!! I can use chapstick but I prefer the kind that doesn't have a flavor/scent. I am in the same boat with those of you that can't wear shoes! I always take them off as soon as I can--once again, they are suffocating! I really do not like wearing shoes or socks either! I feel so confined in them. But on the other hand, Shoes bother me but walking across ice or hot pavement does not. I can walk up and down our gravel (more like rock) driveway and that doesn't bother me. Put me in the wrong kind of socks though and I go nuts! Guest guest
OK, here are my sensory issues: I can't wear foundation because it feels like a heavey mask. My sister goes to a spa and gets mud packs and seaweed wraps and just the thought makes me cringe. I tried a mask once and I felt like I couldn't breath. When I'm in the car, I have to have the fans on and blasting in my face, or the window open or I feel like I'm suffocating. I can't wear hats because they feel heavey on my head. I hate it when anyone touches my head, which is another reason I find going to the dentist so difficult. I also hate wearing shoes and wear sandals as much as possible. Of course, living in Alberta where we have winter for 8 months of the year, this can somethimes be difficult. If I have to wear shoes, I buy them a half size bigger so my feet don't feel closed in. Yikes. I just re-read this and it's makes me sound quite odd. Oh well. Guest guest
I can't recall each one I have read so far, but no, of the ones I have read, I don't have any issues! But then again, I am the type of person who would bleed if it meant it made me look good LOL. But bleeding or not, the things don't bother me. I would wish for winter year-round so that I could wear turtlenecks, I love painted nails <done myself or otherwise> and don't even mind acrylic nails except that I have no time to get them filled. MY fingernails don't talk to me and tell me they are suffocating LOL <which they are, actually, if you break it down LOL>... As you all know, I love makeup, and foundation, well, foundation RULES LOL! What else was there? Oh shoes - - - yes, I do not wear shoes in the house, but I would say my aversion to shoes in the house is more habit than anything else. That, and basic logic.... I mean, why would I wear shoes that I wear out INSIDE my house which I clean and want to keep clean? I mean, if someone can prove to me that walking on the street and walking on my carpet is equally dirty or clean, I will sleep in my shoes for all I care LOL. <Not true, but you know what I mean....> What other issues have we covered? Hmm.... gotta look up those posts! Guest guest
Does anyone else find that the sound of a dentist's drill is physically painful? As opposed to psychologically painful? Dentist drills, hand drills, metal lathes...they all cause me huge amounts of pain. It's hard for me to cut my wood pieces because the sound of the scroll saw sends shudders through me... Now this, I do agree with. I hate chapstick. I don't understand why one should have to wear it because once you do, you have to constantly keep your lips balmed with what feels like candlewax to keep them from chapping. Addictive stuff! But lipstick I like, so long as it's not too dry and ... waxy. I like oily, shiny, moist lipstick... and nothing dramatic either. > I am in the same boat with those of you that can't wear shoes! Guest guest
oh my gosh.. you are all TOO FUNNY! First off.. I HAVE (!!!) to ask you grace.. you said it bothers you to walk on hot pavement or ice.. And just how often do you walk on ice? ...lmao ;-) On a different note.. I think I could be the most neurotic of you all when it comes to sensory issues (no wonder my poor kid has autism!...lol) Feet. I cant stand them!..lol It is a STRICT rule in my house that NO ONE is allowed to touch my feet..lol My husband tried to tickle them once.. He hasnt been the same since! Even TALKING about tickeling feel **UUGGHH** drives me nuts! And these people with foot fetishes!?!?! omg.. the thought of someone licking my toes is enough to make me vomit.. LITTERALLY!...lol Aside from my feet issues..lol I think Im rather *normal*. I have SOME visual sensory issues with food.. ie- cooked mushrooms BBLLAAHH! Makeup.. I smear it all over my face.. I feel just too naked WITHOUT it!..lol Lipstick.. hmmm.. never been my thing. Im more of a tomboy.. so lipstick looks.. just not right on me..lol Im a huge addict of chapstick! The closest i get to lipstick is the tinted blistex! I wear that on special occasions!!!..lol i could go on and on.. but I'll spare you the rest of the details!..lol Rhonda Long island, NEW YORK! Tamara<<<< Yeah, I wondering that too, Grace. As for nail polish, that's the one area where I get really creative. I used to do my nails several times a week, often with wild colors, patterns or pictures. I have been known to paint hearts on my nails for Valentines, or Maple Leaves for July 1st. Of course, since having kids I don't really have the time to do anything elaborate to my nails. I do, however, paint my toenails in the summer, usually purple.
