When I met with my Dr. yesterday, we discussed what it's like for me

when I am at my " ideal " weight of 125.

Bluntly put, I feel like hell. I have nooooo energy, I catch every bug

under the sun (even in summer!), and half the time I feel like I'm

about to pass out. I told her that I am eager to talk to the dietitian

and find out how to prevent this - my former doc finally threw up his

hands and said that for some reason I was more healthy when I was

15-20lbs overweight!

Anyhow, my new doc said she would be happy to see me at 130 at the

lowest; fine by me....

Carolyn,

Diabetes is not to be fooled with...it is a very serious medical

condition. I am sure you can do a lot of research on diabetes.org to

get the answers to these questions, but I work in the front office of

an OR and I see the surgeries people are subjected to because of

diabetes.

The blood vessels can become weakened, leading to vascular disease,

heart disease and the like. Vascular disease can lead to surgery on

the vessels, due to weak spots leading to aneurysms. If it happens

in the large artery called the aorta and isn't caught in time a

person can die suddenly. If the vessels to the legs quit working,

they can lead to death of the tissue in the feet and legs, leading to

amputations. I'm not telling the diabetics here on this list anything

they don't already know...I am trying to be as blunt as possible and

not soften the details, but I am not exaggerating in any way.

Vascular disease can lead to heart attack and strokes and if they

don't kill you they can paralyze you or disable you to the point of

being an invalid and dependent on your loved ones to take care of

them until they do die. Your husband is being very selfish not

taking care of his diabetes...he is setting himself up for disability

or death and leaving you a widow and his children fatherless.

Diabetes is also the leading cause of blindness, I believe. Maybe

that will rattle his cage a bit since he would no longer be able to

watch TV, play on the computer, do his job, or drive a car....he

would be completely dependent on you and his family or friends to

take him everywhere and I don't know about you, but I would be

excessively annoyed at having to tote him everywhere since he

contributed to his disabilities by not taking care of his diabetes...

That's enough ranting and raving for now...but you asked ! :)

Jeannine

ps...I just remembered you said he is in a wheelchair...is that

because of the pain in his legs and feet? That is part of the

diabetes when it is out of control....

There are exercises that can be done by people in wheelchairs...but

he would have to be willing to do them PLUS change his eating

habits....

>

> I'm sorry- I should have made myself more clear.I need to know

more about diabetes because my husband is diabetic. He is pretty over

weight becuse he's in the wheelchair but he also eats a LOT of

sweets. He doesn't want to eat rgular meals, therefore his blodd sugar

in always up and down.I gets up to 255-It has got as low as 60.What I

meant is what happens if his sugar continues to be iregualr? This

really concerns me because he has been a diabetic for 40 years and he

doesn't seem concerned about it.Sometmes he gets into a " stupor " if

it is too low-sometimes he pases out-yet he will not see a doctor

anymore .

Hi Maragret,

I was one of the odd ones! LOL I gained weight on chemo. I never got sick, just a little nausea and dairy products and pizza and spaghetti were what I craved. No wonder I gained!!

I was just curious (yes! again!) how many people lost weight on chemo. I know my best friend didn't but then again, I don't think she could get any thinner!! I know your sick with chemo alot and I was just wondering.

Hi Margaret

I have only had one treatment so far, but I wasn't that sick. I had a bit of N & V the first night and then felt like I had flu like syptoms for the next day or two. I have lost about 28 pounds (its not like I couldn't afford to loose another 30 pounds lol) I think I have lost the weight due to stress. Hopefully I will maintain this weight.

Talk to you Soon

Hi all,

While on Andriamycin/Taxotere I lost 30 pounds. Then 8 months of

Margaret,

I lost about 15 pounds on chemo but unfortunately gained it back over

the course of a year after chemo ended.
