Guest guest
Hi Warren and a very warm welcome to our group. I am sure glad you found us! I have been on Dofetilide (375 twice a day) since October 2000. During this time period, I have experienced five episodes; three of them were about 8 hours in length and two were 16 hours - all triggered from plain ole stress! Back in October of 2000, I was admitted to Duke Medical Center to start the drug, after a history of permanent Afib. The Hospital Monitor registered normal sinus rhythm (a/k/a NSR) after the second dose. I was very apprehensive about this particular hospital stay. One of our Moderators, Codling, went into the hospital about a month before me, and with his support, it was a cinch! In fact, I printed out a couple of his posts and actually brought them to the hospital with me. I read them often, and I can't begin to tell you the comfort that I got from his written word. I have thanked him so often - he was my Guardian Angel in a time of need. Can you imagine, I found my Guardian Angel on the other side of the world. lives in England and I'm in the US, and I will be forever grateful. I was on a variety of drugs before Dofetilide, including Flecainide; decided to go with Dofetilide because all the others made me awfully sick - absolutely no side effects with Dofetilide. However, I must confess, like many of us on any drug, I do have thoughts now and again about *long term* effects, and growing two heads <g>. I also have a Pacemaker. What I do know for sure right now is that I have my life back and its a wonderful wonderful feeling. This is an excellent Pfizer site about Dofetilide/Tikosyn - and should address all of your concerns. http://www.pfizer.com/hml/know/knowtikosyn.html You might also want to check out our Dofetilide Therapy Database. And the three day hospital stay was so easy - nothing to it! However, please keep in mind, one drug is a miracle for one, and the same drug, useless for another. Keep us posted as to what you decide to do - we're here for you.
