This "Newly Diagnosed" lives on Long Island and would be interested in more

information regarding the meeting being held here in April.

Hello Bebe,

My college aged daughter loves the store by that name! Do you know it?

The SPF Patient Conference will be April 20 at a hospital on E. Patchogue, NY. It will be 10:30 - 2:30 p.m. and feature Mark Gudesblatt, M.D. Dr. Gudesblatt is a nerologist and expert on PLS and HSP. We also plan to schedule a physical therapist. The conference is a $25 donation (tax deductable to the SPF), which includes lunch. We are seeing if we can start at 10:00; I will let you know.

An arrival Dinner on Friday, April 19 and a Farewell Dinner on April 20 will also be planned. These are great opportunities to share stories with others as well as have fun. We are getting prices on hotels nearby to recommend for travelers. I live in MA and will travel down and stay both nights.

The local person chairing this event is Chris. Her original diagnosis was ALS, then changed to PLS, and then changed to HSP (they can look similar in the beginning of symptoms). PLS and HSP are upper motor neuron disorders, while ALS is a lower motor neuron disorder. Lucky for her it turned out to be an upper motor neuron problem!! She is a great woman and an active volunteer in the patient community. Her husband is a peach, too. Well, all her family is nice!

Hope to see you there. We will have a promotional flyer soon.

Best,

Kathi

Hi ,

Thanks, haste makes errors and incompleteness. You are correct! On that post I

made it sound (incorrectly) like ALS was *only* lower motor neuron involvement.

On another post I did state it involves both nerves.

I think I should add slowing down to my New Year's resolution list, LOL.

Have a good one!

Hi Kathi,

Just wanted to clarify your statement " PLS and HSP are upper motor

neuron disorders, while ALS is a lower motor neuron disorder. "

ALS is a disorder of the upper and lower motor neurons. You must

show upper motor neuron involvement as well as lower motor neuron

involvement to be diagnosed with ALS. The disorder that is lower

motor neuron only is called PMA-Progressive Muscular Atrophy or SMA-

Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
