Essential fatty acid deficiencies can cause it some times, so either EPA/DHA might help, or GLA (which you can get from borage or evening primrose oil). Probiotics can help. Personally, I had the best success with Primal Defense, though before the formula change several years ago. Natasha -McBride, author of _The Gut and Psychology Syndrome_ puts out one called Bio-Kult that might be very good but I haven't tried it personally. Guest guest
I had what I thought was exzema but it turns out it was one of the signs that an auto immune response was happening... turns out I had something called polymyalgia rheumatica. I took prednisone and I was so happy because it " miraculously " stopped the pain and the rashes I was having. Well, it wasn't too long before I was having dizzy spells and poor skin healing and subcutaneous vascular bleeeding around my ankles. You can't stpped the medication cold turkey or you'll kill yourself as it slows or turns off your adrenal function. I am weaning myself off the prednisone now but I was given the suggestion to go to a naturopath and do some detoxing. I think the question of what you are eating or being exposed to is a very valid one. The biologic dentist that I went to for the first time the other day thinks that the improper removal of my amagam fillings may have caused my health crises. There is a very famous pediatric allergist who says that when behavior or health changes you should think about what you have eaten, touched or smelled. We are so wonderfully made but it seems like this generation has lost touch with what our bodies are trying to tell us. All we want is the quick fix, some pill or elixer to work it's magic by stopping an illness instead of intelligently letting the illness work it's way through and out leaving us with stronger immune systems. I am 54 so I went through the stage that the doctor knows everything and a pill will cure all. Now I know that all the antibiotics I have taken over my lifetime ( especially the two years I was on them almost constantly ) messed with my thyroid and adrenal function. So, sorry for kind of going off on a tangent but I just want to encourage you to look at what might be going on inside to create the reaction that is appearing on the outside. PS I found that coconut oil has become a fantastic " moisturizer " ,for lack of a better term, for my dry skin. When I first starting using it I almost molted like a lizard as it slowly sloughed off the flaky dry skin ! So, I think it will help soothe your eczema but I don't think it will cure it unless it is fungal in origin. > > > Does anyone have any suggestions for relief of eczema rash and itching? > > I've tried hydrocortisone and various suaves and oils, tea tree oil, etc. > > I don't want to go back to a prescription with steroids but I'm really sick > > of living with this! Guest guest
Have you considered the possibility that it's caused by an internal yeast/fungus overgrowth? Try eliminating sugar, refined carbs, alcohol, vinegar, peanuts and other yeasted and mold-inhabiting foods for a few weeks, and take some herbal antifungals on a rotation (1-2 weeks per supp.)like grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, pau d'arco, oregano oil, caprylic acid/coconut oil, garlic, neem and others. Take a good probiotic. You might be surprised at the results. Also drink lots of raw milk if you can/have access to it. Good luck! Guest guest
According to what I read when I was reading up on fasting, a few days of fasting ought to clear it right up. If you want to do this, keep a food journal when you resume eating to see if a food you are sensitive to is the culprit. Odds are it is something you feel addictive feelings toward - part of the sensitivity/tolerance thing. > > Does anyone have any suggestions for relief of eczema rash and itching? Guest guest
I don't know much about the internal causes of eczema, but the very best external relief I've found for dry, itchy, rashy skin is: ? Pure lanolin mixed with Weleda's baby calendula oil. Sounds weird, but even the straight lanolin doesn't work quite as well. I originally put the oil in to hide the smell of the lanolin (I didn't know it had a smell, but apparently my son thinks it does). And now it's my new favorite thing. The oil also helps to make it more spreadable and less gloppy. The lanolin I use is Lansinoh, the kind in the purple tube for breastfeeding. I had it left over from nursing (which it helps tremendously if you get chapped there) and now still buy it. My son licks and rubs his lips all the time so the skin around his mouth has been quite chapped. I put this on him when he goes to bed and in the morning it's?still pink?but nearly healed. Amazing. Of course, then he starts licking and rubbing and we start from square one again!! Danae p.s. If someone writes back and tells me lanolin is bad for me I'll cry! Re: relief for eczema?
