Guest guest
Hi Mandy, Perhaps it is a control thing or like closterfobia. I used to do insurance exams and I remember one lady that was also histerical about me taking her BP I thought I would never get it done. I also had to take her blood. Her husband was there as well and he was next for the physical. He was acting like she was crazy. She did OK no problems except for her fear. When I took his blood he fainted. Just remember it will not harm you, but just hurt a little sometimes if they pump it to high. If they pump it up to high tell them not to. Remember you can rip it off in a second so you are not trapped. It only takes a second to have it done so try to hang in there. I have had some nurses pump it up way past what my BP is and it kind of hurts and they let the air out to slow. I tell them what my BP usually is before they pump it up so they don't go to high. The ones that really hurt are the ones in the hospital that pump up, you have to hold your arm very still or it will keep on pumpin, but you can always pull that one off too. It is sometimes hard to get a good loud BP when you have a-fib because the sound skips a beat so that is probably why they put it up a little higher. Just hang in there it will be OK. Peggy --- Trudy, I have bought several BP machines and when I take it at home, it sometimes comes out with an " E " for error, and then I get more uptight! It doesn't seem to matter who or what takes the pressure, just the thought of it makes me crazy! I am now in a constant state of stress over this whole situation, and feel as if I can't get a deep breath or relax, because it is on my mind. Like I said in my first message, it has become a PHOBIA! I'm seeing my Internist tomorrow, and will see what He suggests. Obviously He will take my BP, which I am already sressing over. I'm sure the answer will be more pills!
