>.I am REALLY scared of what my body has in store for me when my

thyroid is removed. Could you please share your experience with your

weight issues and how/if you have dealt with them. Has your doctor

recommended anything?

I've always been chunky and found after my thyroid was removed that

its a little harder for me to lose weight but other than that, not

too different. Interestingly enough, my weight has been pretty

consistient since my TT (instead of the usual few pounds a year creep

up that I had been seeing).

I asked my doctor about weight loss and what could he suggest, and he

told me that there is no magic bullet (if there was he'd have a much

bigger practice and he grinned) and that the only way to lose is to

exercise more and eat less. My ob/gyn indicated that it takes 90-120

days for exercise to become a regular pattern and for your body to

expect and crave it, that a few weeks of dillegence at the gym won't

make it, it has to be a long term committment.

Admittedly, i pretty much eat anything i want to, and I walk a few

miles a day. I also don't worry much about it - I feel good, my

health is good, my energy is good, and I'm strong. So what if I'm

chunky, doesn't make me any less smart or any less of a good person.

LOL...thank you for the support...you must be married! :-) I have to care, at

least a little, about my weight because many men are shallow and can't see past

the " chunkiness " enough to see my intelligence and personality! :-)

actually, i'm not currently married, .. i presently have a sig other,

who doesn't care about my weight.. never has

i wouldn't put up with a man who cared more about appearances than

substance, he wouldn't be worth my time in the long run...

good luck!

Good Evening

I had to reply to this email as I have had a struggle with my weight as well and

it has been a biggy. WHen i was first diagnosed i weighed 134lbs, and six

months later i weighed 197 lbs at my peak weight. I was devastated as I have

maintained my weight for over 7 years and was quite happy with it. My husband

of 3 years at the time said that it didn;t matter how much I weighed. This was

a great thing to hear as i feared that he would have a problem. He loves me for

me and not what I look like on the outside and that made the whole issue a lot

easier to deal with. I have currently lost 20 lbs and am continuing to loose

more but it is a struggle and I have to exercise regularly to loose as well as

cutting down on the junk. It is worth it though as some day I hope to get in to

those jeans that I am hanging on to and they are a size 8. I will be happy to

get there, or as close as I can. Stay positive and remember that the pretty

wrapping is only on the outside and what is on the inside is what really counts.

I would like to chime in on that one...even at 45 and chubby. I would love to

find a man with a big heart that can love the soft edges. Does anyone know of a

Thyca dating service??? lol

Wanted to add my 2-cents here. Dating sure doesn't work too well when

you're going hypo and getting RAI for scans or treatment!!! I have

been using an internet dating site, but since my Cytomel has worn off

tonight, I can't remember the name ;-) It has been less than a

rewarding experience... And telling someone that you have been dating

you 'have the C' (even the curable kind) sure makes them dissapear

quickly. Maybe the next time the subject of the scar on my neck comes

up, I'll lie and tell them I was in a bar room brawl. Or I sang too

much Opera and tore a vocal cord. After all the thyroid trouble, I

ended up with a figure like Pavoratti anyway.

I'm getting an RAI on April 29th, so I have other things like preparing

for LID to keep me busy in the evening.
