<<I am new to the group and have decided to get off of paxil. I have been taking

paxil for about 5 years to help me overcome panic attacks. I haven't had any

panic attacks since I started and have felt much happier. Of course i have also

gained 35 pounds and have very little motivation to get things done.

The panic attacks occurred at work, the first one happened because I felt

threatened. After the panic response came it embarrassed me, and than I became

very nervous about it happening again, so voila I set myself up for them

happening regularly. I spent about 5 years fighting them with many different

approaches and finally decided to go on paxil. i just felt like I needed a break

from the constant anxiety of worrying about having an attack.

Anyhoo, I think it is time to get my life back and my emotions and get rid of

these 35 extra lbs.

I started to cut about 5-7 mg off of my 30 mg dose pills, 3 days ago. So far so

good! When should I expect to start having the negative symptoms??

Thank you for this discussion board I believe it will help me succeed in my

endeavor.>>

** You should begin feeling something in the first week if this is a regular

formulation and not CR (is it?). If you manage this reduction without a big

reaction, your next one should be smaller -- 5-10% of the dose you are taking.

If you're taking 25 mg. you will reduce this by 5-10%. I recommend 5% for

Paxil.

Then, you wait it out until you feel as well or better than you felt prior to

the last reduction. That is your signal that your body and brain have adjusted.

Wait as long as you have to wait to feel this way. If you feel like you can't

function at all after several days, you have done too much of a decrease. Go

back up to the last dose, wait until you feel okay again, then do a smaller

decrease than the last time.

Your body will need support in the form of whole foods (organic as often as

possible) and high quality full spectrum supplements. There's more on this in

the files.

If this is the only psych drug you've ever taken, you will get through this

more easily than those for whom this is not the first time. There's a certain

amount your body can bear. This one time seems to be it. After that, people

have a much more difficult time.

If you have other medical conditions and/or take other drugs, there may be

other considerations.
