vote on Senate Bill 4779 which would allow minors to get vaccines forsexually-transmitted diseases without a parent's knowledge or consent. Thisis highly unusual, the bill sailed through a vote in the Senate Health

Committee last week---we didn't catch that one, but we caught, and stoppedthis one. But this isn't over yet, we need to remain vigilant, the author ofthe bill Senator Liz Krueger of Manhattan said yesterday that she intends to

see the bill passed.The bill is an extraordinary violation of parents' rights. S4779 has no agelimit. Gardasil, the human papilloma virus shot, that this bill is directlyintended to promote, is licensed for children as young as 9-years old. The

decision to give the shot or not is transferred from parents to medicalworkers, who frequently will have a direct financial interest in giving theshot. There are many contraindications for Gardasil. Yet this bill

completely disregards the contraindications to Gardasil, unless you think itis reasonable that a 9-year old would know and understand their own medicalhistory sufficiently to make a responsible choice.The bill also indicates a profound ignorance of the safety issues with

Gardasil. More than 10,000 injuries, and more than 30 deaths have beenregistered just in the past two years with the federal Vaccine Adverse EventReporting System. And use of Gardasil has been suspended in Spain and the

Netherlands for safety concerns.An identical bill, (A6702) is in the New York Assembly which was introducedby Amy in, a Democrat from Scarsdale, who has received at least $2000 indirect campaign contributions from Merck, the manufacturer of Gardasil.
